My Gaming Week in Review (1/08- 1/14)!

I haven’t done it in a little while, but I thought I’d bring back My Gaming Week in Review for the new year! I always enjoyed writing this type of summary post, and it helps me keep track of my gaming! Let’s see if I can keep up with this on a regular basis- I tend to be awfully flighty, haha! 😉

First, though, I want to say thank you to The Shameful Narcissist who has so nicely awarded me with a blogging award called The Sunshine Blogger Award! 🙂 I’m so excited to receive another reward! I have a couple more blog posts planned, and then I will post all about it!

So, let’s get to what I played this week!

Wii U

Michael and I continued playing Yoshi’s Woolly World this week. We both love this game! It’s so cute and vibrant. Here are some screenshots from World 2:

This level’s name really cracked me up for some reason:

Although the “Blargg” was a very rude creature who kept trying to attack me and push me into the lava! I remember those jerks from Yoshi’s Island…

The best part about World 2, though, was POOCHY!

I love Poochy! Here’s a few more screenshots of him just being awesome!

So we then moved on to World 3…

And we knitted together a few more Yoshis, but I’ll get better pics of them later! We left off on World 4-1, so I’m sure we will continue on with our adventure this week!

Nintendo DS

Something I do every now and then is play an “easy” game before bed. Something I don’t have to spend a lot of time or effort on but that is still fun. I decided to resurrect this idea and play a game that is cute, simple, and one that I never played all the way through- The Legendary Starfy!

This game is so adorable. I previously only played through the first 3 levels (shame on me!) so I just started a new game. Despite being underwater most of the time, the controls are actually pretty easy.

Plus, Starfy is just so HAPPY. I mean, just look at the joy on his face when he does something as simple as jump in the air!

Ironically, I left off where I did before, but I don’t plan on stopping here! I want to play the game through this time, even if I just play one level before bed at night. In the meantime, enjoy Starfy in his beachwear outfit and sunglasses!

Nintendo 3DS

As you probably figured from my last entry, I also played some Tomodachi Life this week. After doing those pictures with my Grampy, I decided to check in on my islanders, many of whom told me they hadn’t seen me in 3 months! Oops!

Anyway, one of the first things I noticed was that Kevin was sad that he and Marge had broken up. He replayed a montage of good times in his head, and it took me forever to get him out of his mopey mood!

However, not more than 15 minutes later, Jason begged Marge to be with him. Frank (Grampy!) tried to say he loved her more, but she still went with Jason. Kevin who?

Also, Dani attempted to hook up with Steve, but he stood her up at the cafe. That bastard!

I found Isabella’s super all-time favorite food…

As well as Skye’s worst-ever food!

And Steve, paying no mind to Dani’s broken heart, wanted some clothes to “up his cool factor.” I found an outfit that said just that in the clothing store, and he loved it!

So, things are just as quirky as ever on Crickie Island. Never a dull moment there!

I didn’t do any mobile gaming this week!

I FINALLY bought and started playing Stardew Valley this week! I have been wanting this game for quite some time, but was holding out for the Wii U version. Once that got cancelled, I decided to buy it on Steam. I’m going to do a First Impressions post of this soon, so stayed tuned for that. But here’s what the adorable icon looks like on my desktop! 😉

Retro Machine

Finally, I played a little bit of my Retro Machine that Michael got me for my birthday last year! For those that aren’t familiar, it’s a cute little tabletop arcade system with 200 games built in! I’ve played some of the games, but not all of them. I want to eventually play through all of them, so I started right at the top with F-22!

F-22 is a pretty cool little shooter. It’s kind of like a mix between Space Invaders and Galaga, and its difficulty is pretty unforgiving.

At one point, I did get to a boss…

but right after I took that picture, I died, and I had to start the level ALL OVER. Bullshit! Oh well. Still fun though!

So those were my gaming adventures this week! See ya!

Thanks, Tomodachi Life!

We laid my Grampy to rest yesterday. While it definitely is not easy to accept the fact that he is gone, there is at least one place where he is immortalized in the gaming world. That place is Crickie Island, my family’s virtual home in Tomodachi Life!

Here, Grampy will be forever hanging out with everyone, free to do what he wants! Here he is striking a pose with one of his signature phrases…

Here he is with my grandma…

His 6 children…

His 7 grandchildren…

And his 5 great-grandchildren!

I wanted to pose him with all of our spouses too, but it only let me put a certain number of people in each photo even though it was a “group shot.” Ugh!

Anyway, playing this game and seeing him alive and well in it actually brings me some happiness because I can actually see aspects of his personality in his Look-Alike! It’s not the same as being with the real person, of course, but knowing that I can at least visit him in this virtual world whenever I want makes me feel just a little bit better.

Kirby’s 25th Anniversary!

While browsing on Twitter a couple nights ago, I came across some fabulous information:

Wow! 2017 marks Kirby’s 25th anniversary! For his 2oth anniversary, Kirby’s Dream Collection came out, which was a really nice mix of games, challenges, a “museum” to view information on every Kirby game, and even a couple anime episodes!

With that being said, I REALLY hope they do something awesome for his 25th anniversary. Right now there is a website (all in Japanese, of course) that you can look at if you’re interested. Just click on this link! This website is so adorable and I can only hope that Nintendo of America will show Kirby some love too!

Oh, and I’m not usually a huge fan of watches, but…

I really want that watch! How cool is that?! I’ll take the keychain next to it, too! 😉

Pokémon GO Progress!

It’s been awhile since I’ve done an update on my progress with Pokémon GO. I intended on writing an entry about it a little while back, but never got around to it. Anyway! I have still been playing casually, and I’ve got a few new critters.

First, though, I need to bitch about this guy:

Image result for ditto pokemon go

End rant. So first of all, I’ve earned several medals, including evolving 20 Pokémon, catching 50 Grass-type Pokémon, hatching 10 eggs, catching 50 Water-type Pokémon…

And my favorite medal, catching 3 Pikachu! Who knew catching the cute little guy several times was an accomplishment in itself.

Recently, I’ve caught a Diglett…

A Santa Hat Pikachu…

And randomly, a Ponyta!

I was at work stocking cans on a shelf when I caught it, hence the weird screenshot. I was actually not trying to catch anything that day, I was just trying to get steps in to hatch some eggs. Ponyta was a lucky bonus!

Speaking of eggs, I recently hatched an Electabuzz…

a Mankey…

And a Tentacool! I’m happy about this one, because I caught one Tentacruel (the evolution of Tentacool) many months ago, but I had yet to come across one of these guys.

As far as evolutions are concerned, I’ve evolved my Haunter into a Gengar…

my Kakuna into a Beedrill…

my Bellsprout into a Weepinbell…

and my Bulbasaur into an Ivysaur.

I had Weedle as my buddy briefly because I just needed one more piece of candy from it. Look how cute it was sitting on my shoulder!

As of right now, Meowth is my buddy. I only need one more piece of candy before I can evolve it!

One night while I was playing, I came across a really random glitch! Nidoran was hanging upside down… and when I threw the Pokéball, it curved underhand towards him! It was totally bizarre but kind of funny too.

So right now, here is my current collection of Pokémon:

I like to have one of every kind and of every stage of evolution, so I do not evolve a Pokémon until I will be able to have one of each. So if you see more than one of a Pokémon, that means I’m trying to evolve it. That’s just the way I like to do things! 🙂

Oh, and my current level is 16!

One last note: I caught one Santa Hat Pikachu and was happy, cuz it’s so darn cute! I actually came across another one, and tried in vain to catch it. It broke out of 3 Pokéballs and 2 Great Balls then ran away, leaving me empty handed and without any Pokéballs at all! Dammit! I was hoping to evolve it into a Santa hat Raichu, but that’s just my shitty luck I guess!

One Lovely Blog Award!

Like I mentioned yesterday, I was recently nominated for the One Lovely Blog Award by fellow blogger bobaandgames!

That was really sweet of her to nominate me, and I really appreciate it!! Here are the rules of the award:

Thank the person who nominated you and link their blog
Add the One Lovely Blog Award to your post
Share 7 things about yourself
Pass this on to as many people as you like (max 15)
Include this set of rules
Inform your nominees

All right, here are 7 things about myself! 🙂

1. Despite the fact that most people who know me call me “goth” and joke about my love of all things dark, I actually really love being at the beach and out by the pool. I love the peacefulness and beauty of the ocean, and I love to float on a raft in the pool and relax the day away.

Canaveral National Seashore, one of the beaches we tend to frequent the most…

2. I really love tattoos and piercings! I would probably be covered up in them if it weren’t for Michael’s protests 😉 I currently have 10 tattoos and 12 piercings.

My left ear- my rook piercing is my favorite!

3. I am a huge animal lover. I love all things fuzzy, furry, scaly, slimy, and everything in between!

Bowser and Minnie, two of my many animal pals!

4. With that being said, I have had my turtle Bob for 19 years! My aunt and uncle gave him to me as a Christmas present all those years ago, and he’s been my pal ever since!

Bob looks grumpy, but give him a break- he’s old!

5. My dream car is a Dodge Viper. I was lucky enough to ride in one a couple years ago, and it was one of the most fun things I’ve ever done!

My pics of the Dodge Viper are on my other computer, but I rode in one that looked just like this!

6. I love writing. I have a whole collection of stories I wrote as a kid! As an adult, there are many stories I’ve written, but never completed. Right now I’m writing a story based off of Super Mario RPG- only Mario and Co. curse a lot and are super sarcastic. I also have a bunch of journals I’ve written in since I was 9 years old.

*I was going to post a pic of all my journals, but they are still all packed up! Sorry!*

7. Since I’m writing a story based off of Super Mario RPG, you would be correct in guessing that it is my favorite video game of all time. Ever since the game came out in 1996, I have been obsessed with it. The storyline, the characters, the weird plot twists and turns- it fully captivated me! I have played through the game many times and have exploited every last secret in it- yet I can still go back and play it and enjoy it all over again!

So there you have it, 7 things about me! Thanks again for the award, bobaandgames! 🙂 As far as nominating others goes… consider yourselves all nominated! 😉 Thanks for reading!

First Impressions: Yoshi’s Woolly World!

First of all, I just want to thank you guys for all your support. Your messages and comments mean a lot to me. Dealing with my grandfather’s passing is rough stuff, but I’m grateful for all of your kind words!

Second of all, I’ve recently been nominated for the One Lovely Blog Award by bobaandgames! That’s really cool. I’ll be doing a blog entry on that award next 🙂 Now, onto my blog entry!

One thing I thought would be a fun “New Year’s Resolution” of sorts was for my husband-

Hang on, you know what… I’ve been doing this blog for over a year, and I always just type “my husband.” His name is MICHAEL, so from now on when you read about Michael, you know who I am talking about! 😉

Haha, now that that is off my chest… I thought it would be fun for Michael and I to team up and tackle a game together. We used to do it way more often but as of late we’ve always just tackled our own backlogs separately. I proposed the idea to him, and he was on board! I figured I would pick the first game, since it was my idea 😉

Since the Wii U is set up in the living room, it seemed fitting that we would play a Wii U game first! I was going to pick Super Mario 3D World, but when I saw Yoshi’s Woolly World sitting there, looking sad in its wrapper, I knew that would be a great game to start with!

Just starting up the game made me smile- the intro screens are too adorable!

There are two game modes to choose from, and we choose Mellow Mode. Yeah, we made sure the game was easier, don’t judge!

After a short introduction where Kamek, who is always a huge pain in the ass, turned all of the Yoshis into yarn, the game began!

We didn’t do two player co-op, we just set it to one player and switched off every level. We played through the entire first World. The game is so cute! I love how it feels like Yoshi’s Island but looks like Kirby’s Epic Yarn. In the first World, we learned basic game mechanics…

Bounced high in treetops…

Turned into a floating umbrella…

Hung out with some Chomp Rocks….

Defeated Big Montgomery, a giant mole with a bad attitude….

Balanced on windmills…

Dealt with bomb-throwing Shy Guys…

Turned into a giant….

Hung out at the beach…

Turned into a motorcycle…

Played on some giant… yarn balls…

And defeated Burt the Bashful! He doesn’t like his pants being pulled down, but then again, who does? 😉

To wrap up the night, we played through the first level of World 2, which had some weird wavy walkways in it!

We also knitted two Yoshis back together: Treetop Yoshi…

and Yoshimelon!

Apparently collecting all the yarn in each level will knit back together another Yoshi. We definitely missed a few, but we’ll probably go back for them another time. I always like to play though and beat the game first, then go back for extras later.

This is a very fun, sweet game! I love the aesthetic, and the gameplay is fluid and easy to pick up. I cannot wait to play through more of it and knit even more Yoshis back together! 🙂

A Different Type of Blog Post.

Since this is a video game blog, I typically don’t blog about many “personal” things. However, I felt the need to share with all my gaming friends that my grandfather (I called him Grampy) passed away last night after nearly a year long battle with lung cancer.

I was very close to Grampy, probably due to the fact that my mom and I actually lived with my grandparents growing up. As a result, he often felt more like a father to me than a grandfather. Even after I grew up and moved out, I still made it a point to visit almost every weekend.

When I first learned he had cancer last year, my heart broke. I wasn’t sure how much time I had left with him, so I (along with the rest of my family) made the best of it. When he was going through chemo, he would take a steroid that stimulated his appetite, so we were constantly getting him all the junk food he wanted- his favorites included Pizza Hut, Chick-Fil-A and Krystals. We hung out, we watched TV (and tons of MMA fights, which he loved), we had fun conversations. I even got a tattoo on my ribcage to commemorate him which, to my surprise, he actually really liked! (He wasn’t big on tattoos at all)

He still kept his humor and his smile as his condition deteriorated. My only hope as the holiday season approached was to have one last holiday with all of us together, and my wish was granted. We gathered in his room on Christmas to watch a DVD of pictures and videos my uncle put together, and he had the biggest smile on his face the whole time. On New Years Eve, we crowded in his room to watch the ball drop on tv, and he again had the biggest smile on his face.

Yesterday, we all told him it was okay to move on. He had suffered enough. He didn’t say much, but he knew we were there. At one point I was holding his hand and when I moved my hand away, he grabbed it back. He passed peacefully at 11:32 p.m.

Though words cannot describe my grief, all I can say is that I am beyond grateful for almost 31 years of being able to spend time with Grampy. I am so grateful that I am so close to the rest of my family as well, and I love them all more than I can even say.

Thanks for reading this. I’ll be back with my regular video game postings soon- anything video game related seems to cheer me up!
