GameStop, Cybertron, and Target Goodies!

Some of my remaining Christmas money was burning a hole in my wallet, just begging to be spent, so Michael and I recently went on a little gaming shopping spree!

First, we went to a GameStop to look around. I think I’ve mentioned it before, but I don’t really like GameStop all that much, and I don’t shop there very often. I really only like to look through their games that are dirt cheap. Anyway, this particular GameStop really pissed me off!

First of all, I was going to buy a Boo amiibo, and the box was all banged up and there was a sticker slapped on it haphazardly. I don’t care about keeping my amiibos in boxes, but I know a lot of people do, and the carelessness of it just annoyed me. Second of all, the guy who worked there was really rude.Β Normally I don’t let things like that bother me, but I had a headache and wasn’t in the mood for bullshit. So we left!

The second GameStop we went to was much better. I did end up buying a Boo amiibo there, and I’m glad I did. He is too cool! I love the fact the he glows in the dark.

I also picked up Cooking Mama: World Kitchen for the Wii. I recently realized that I am missing like 3 Cooking Mama games, and I really enjoy that series! So I was able to cross this one off my list. πŸ™‚

They also had Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call for the 3DS for a really cheap price! This game has interested me for quite some time, so I can’t wait to play it!

We then decided to hit up a little store called Cybertron, which we had never been to before. Since we just moved to this city a few months ago, we are still learning the area. My husband saw it online and it’s only about 15 minutes from our house, so we decided to check it out!

And man, am I glad we did! What a cool store! There are SO MANY games from SO MANY different systems, it was hard to decide where to look first! They had a decent selection of imported games too, which was super cool. They happened to have a promotion where it was buy one, get one 50% off so I ended up buying several games!

First of all, I picked up Jeopardy! 25th Anniversary Edition and Wheel Of Fortune for the NES. I know, there are many updated versions of these games, but they were only $2!

I also picked up Mario’s Time Machine for the SNES. Yes, I realize to many people, this game sucks, but oh well. It was cheap, and I’ve never seen it in person before, so I wanted it!

mariostimemachine

I got 2 Super Famicom games… one is called γƒ©γ‚€γƒˆγƒ•γ‚‘γƒ³γ‚Ώγ‚ΈγƒΌ, or Light Fantasy- this is an RPG never released anywhere outside of Japan.

lightfantasy

And one is calledΒ γƒγƒ³γƒ—γƒ¬γ‚Ήγƒˆ / コンパむル, orΒ Super Nazo Puyo- Lulu no Luu- this is a puzzle game from what I understand!

supernazopuyo

I was really excited to get this games until I got home and realized I was a TOTAL IDIOT. Somehow I managed to forget all about the fact that the SNES is region-locked and will not play imported Super Famicom games. WOW. How did I forget that?! I know I can break the tabs inside the SNES so the cartridge will fit, but I’m not really that talented and will probably break the whole thing. Ugh! I’ve been looking around for a converter like the one I have for my N64, but they seem kind of expensive. Oh well, I’ll figure something out. At least these games only cost me like $5 each!

Moving on from my idiocy, I nabbed a game called Bio Freaks for the N64. I don’t know much about this game at all (in fact I’ve never even heard of it) butΒ I looked it up. It’s a fighting game made by Midway. So maybe it will be similar to Mortal Kombat?

Also for the N64, I spottedΒ οΌ–οΌ”γ§η™Ίθ¦‹οΌγŸγΎγ”γ£γ‘γ€€γΏγ‚“γͺγ§γŸγΎγ”γ£γ‘γƒ―γƒΌγƒ«γƒ‰, which translates to 64 de Hakken! Tamagotchi- Minna de Tamagotchi World!

64dehakken

I was SO EXCITED to see this game! I’ve wanted this game for years. It’s kind of like Mario Party, but you have to raise your Tamagotchi and take care of it as you go around a game board. And yes, since I have a converter for my N64, I can play this game! I did test this game out when I got home since it sounded like the cartridge was rattling a little bit, but everything works great! It seems like an adorable game. At $13, this was the 2nd most expensive game I purchased that day, so not too shabby!

So what was the most expensive purchase that day? My shiny (used) PlayStation Vita! πŸ™‚

psvitaandstuff

I have been wanting a Vita for awhile, but for some reason I kept putting off getting one. My husband has one, but I wanted my own because I wanted to link it to my own PlayStation account and use my own memory cards for games instead of using his up! Plus, I’ve read about so many great games for the Vita that I want! Anyway, it was sitting there at the store for $130 bucks in almost brand new condition (there is one small scratch on the screen that you can’t even really see), came with a 4GB memory card and a free charger, and I had my Christmas money… so I bought it! πŸ™‚

And just so I had a game to start out with, I bought Persona 4: Dancing All Night. I also have Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz that I bought awhile back, plus all of my husband’s games, so I have enough to keep me busy for awhile!

A few days after that, we went shopping at Target. I was surprised to see Paper Mario: Color Splash for the Wii U for $20 off, so I went ahead and nabbed it!

I also picked up this adorable PokΓ©mon handbook.

And even though this isn’t exactly video game related…

catstax

I do enjoy board games and puzzle games, so I thought Cat Stax looked like fun! There are 48 different puzzles on cards to solve, and your goal is to fit the little cats perfectly in the grid for each puzzle. Seems like it will be challenging and fun!

So there are all the goodies I got with my Christmas money! πŸ™‚ I told myself I wasn’t going to add to my backlog anymore, but fuck it, there is no way I can stick to that! πŸ˜‰

  1. Congrats on getting Boo! I always see mine glowing on my Amiibo shelf at night. It’s so awesome, and tiny bit freaky, haha.

I’d like to see your opinions on Theatrythm. It doesn’t seem like my type of game, but I see my favourite video game character on the box art so I’m automatically interested in it now πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks, I am excited to have him! πŸ™‚ He is in my office, so I haven’t yet noticed him glowing in the dark, lol! I’ll let you know when I play Theatrhythm! It seemed like a bit of an odd game when I first saw it, but I’ve heard many good things about it. So you may like it too! πŸ˜‰

  2. The last time I went into a GameStop I remember the clerk (who must’ve been a teenager) looking at me and my friend saying he “didn’t peg us for gamers.” I was wearing a Sephiroth T-Shirt with a one-winged necklace and she was wearing a Doctor Who one. Also WE WERE IN A GAME STORE. I just stared at him for five seconds, because I knew I’d been playing video games longer than he’d been alive, and I was pissed, because I knew the reason he didn’t “peg us for gamers.” I don’t mean to bitch about mainstream gamer culture as much as I do (it certainly doesn’t include WP culture, because honestly, it’s great on here), but it keeps giving me reasons to complain. I also don’t completely blame the employees, because the company is all about making the almighty dollar, not really catering to gamers, which is probably why that Amiibo was not well taken care of. It doesn’t make sense to me since many gamers incorporate it into more than just the playing aspects of their lives, but I think they favor the customers who are there for games, consoles, and equipment, not necessarily fandom stuff. There’d be so much more fandom stuff if they did, and they’d make SO much bank. The old school game store is so much better with that kind of stuff, and way more welcoming. I always forget why I rarely walk into GameStop of the like, and I’m often tempted when I’m in the mall, but then I remember hehe.

    Oh no! Hm, could you google how to break the tabs off easily so you don’t destroy the game? The prices weren’t terrible true, but it would suck not to be able to play the games you purchased ;_;

    1. Ugh, how annoying that that happened to you! What the hell does that even mean anyway- like, what does a “gamer” have to look like? You are right though, it’s all about the money with most places. I actually worked at a GameStop about 13 years ago, and it wasn’t as bad back then. I only worked with one guy who was kind of an asshole, but everyone else seemed to be there just because they genuinely like gaming.

Yeah, I was going to look more into how I can play those games! My husband suggested we buy one of those consoles that play Retro games that aren’t too expensive and try to break the tabs off of it. That way, if it breaks, at least we didn’t break the original Super Nintendo! I definitely want to play those games so I’ll find a way! πŸ˜‰

      1. Exactly! What the hell does a gamer look like anyway? Ridiculous. I think it’s because brick and mortar store really have to compete with online/digital options. It’s funny because I say the same thing about bookstores, but the people working there aren’t assholes at all lol. In fact they’re even more helpful because they know you have other options. I actually care about keeping brick and mortar bookstores afloat. Game stores not so much. I don’t want people to lose their jobs, but don’t make it likes it’s an exclusive club.

Good luck! I hope you figure out a way to play them πŸ™‚

  3. Wow! So many awesome things! First of all, I’ve always wanted to play Mario’s Time Machine as someone who played and enjoyed Mario is Missing. Yes I’m weird like that. But on to the better items on your list, by which I mean 25th Anniversary Jeopardy for NES. I played that game so much as a kid. This is also weird to share, but I used to get nightmares from that game because of the way the characters used to tic in addition to the gloomy music played when you get an answer wrong. I love Jeopardy and the game itself, but that edition in particular scared me. I had no problem with Wheel of Fortune for NES, which I think had the same characters with the same tics. Finally, last and most certainly best, Curtain Call is an amazing title that I admit going crazy for. I played over 300 hours of it and bought every DLC. What have I done?! But seriously, it’s so fun especially the more Final Fantasy (and Square Enix) titles you’ve played.

    1. Now I just have to find time to play them all! πŸ˜‰ Aww, I’m glad to hear you enjoyed Mario is Missing. I have always wanted to play it too, and I regret the one time I saw it at a store and passed it up. So I’m actually really looking forward to Mario’s Time Machine! And OH MY GOODNESS that is scary about the Jeopardy game! I can’t wait to play it and see what you are talking about! Yay, glad to hear such good things about Curtain Call! I’ve wanted that game for awhile because I thought it was such a neat concept. That’s awesome that you loved it so much you played over 300 hours and bought all the DLC! It’s nice to find a game that’s worth the DLC, since sometimes I feel like the DLC is being used for a money grab!

      1. Oh, the DLC is indeed a huge money grab. I have no justification to buy it besides I loved the game so much that I wanted it. I wish it were either cheaper or just included in the initial package. But that’s not how things work, especially with Square Enix.

I hope that 25th Anniversary Jeopardy doesn’t give you the same nightmares that it gave me! I think it’s something that only would have ever affected me, but I still think those visual tics are weird nonetheless.

But yes, Mario’s Time Machine! Apparently, he surfs through time, which sounds awesome. Mario is Missing was an entertaining Carmen Sandiego-like game that I enjoyed simply because everything was so wrong with it. Koopas explode when you stomp on them, Bowser has a ridiculous plan to amass hair dryers to melt Antarctica, and you can only summon Yoshi to your location if you know where you are, which I suppose makes sense. Edutainment games fascinate me, and Mario is Missing’s absurdity takes the cake.

      2. I know what you mean! I have a hard time justifying DLC in a lot of cases… like with Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and for Wii U! Charging a couple bucks for 1 character seemed outrageous, and I never bought anything extra in those games. I did purchase the DLC for Mario Kart 8 because that seemed like a much better deal!

Haha well I will be sure to let you know if the Jeopardy game freaks me out! πŸ˜‰

Mario is Missing sounds pretty funny! I feel like that’s a game I would enjoy just because it’s so weird! Hopefully I will be able to find it and buy it at some point!

  4. My gosh… so many games!!! That’s so cool that you were able to find a Playstation Vita at a good price! You found Paper Mario: Color Splash for only $20? Wow, I’m surprised it was that low! How in the world is it only $20!? I want that game! Hopefully someday!! I know my son would love it too! I have always wanted to take a better look at the Theatrhythm Final Fantasy game on the 3DS.. It looks interesting, but just haven’t bought it yet! Let me know what you think of these games when you play them! Okay, and I’ve seen you mentioned the Cooking Mama games… I have never played those either… They look like something I might be interested in playing maybe? Your Boo amiibo is so cute… cool that he glows in the dark! You’ve got a lot of great stuff for your Christmas haul! Yes, Gamestop employees are not always friendly I think. I wish we had another game store closer to us.. something other than Gamestop because that’s all we have here. When I go in Gamestop, I avoid the employees because they’re not all that friendly.. but my husband talks to anybody. lol. I’m a snob. lol. Have fun with all your games and cat puzzle! πŸ™‚ Oh, and I hope you will be able to play those region-locked games and figure something out!!…

    1. I know! I am glad I had some extra cash to spend on games! That Vita really was an excellent deal. I got very lucky! Oh, Paper Mario was actually $40… it was $20 off, but it was still a good deal! I figured it might not go on sale again for a long time so I went ahead and bought it, it seems like a great game! I don’t know what it is about GameStop, but I’ve had several rude encounters in there… lucky for me, I don’t really give a shit and I keep going on about my business lol! I hope I’ll be able to play the Super Famicom games too. I can’t believe I was such a dork and forgot they were region-locked! They are cool to have, anyway.

  5. Hey, I would have forgotten about the region-locked thing too.. Don’t feel bad! Hopefully you’ll be able to get around it! $20 off for Paper Mario seems like a great deal and a steal! I hope to get that one sometime. Yep, great deal for the Vita too!! πŸ™‚

  6. What wonderful pickups, how I love the excitiment that comes from finding a good deal in the wild, sure it’s easy as pie to search eBay but something special in finding something out and about gotta luv it πŸ’
