What I’ve Been Playing Lately!

I know I haven’t been very good at posting much about the games I’ve been playing lately- sorry! It was fun to do my “Gaming Week in Review” posts, but it started to become a little bit of a chore. I feel like when it’s time to sit down and play a game, I want to just PLAY it, not worry about taking screenshots and remembering what I was doing to give a play by play of it later. So, I figured if I did more of a summary post of what I’ve been playing, that would be easier and more fun to do! Doing this once every few weeks or so is much less stressful than trying to put out a post like that every week.

Anyway, I’ve decided that I’m going to follow a format for gaming that I came up with awhile back: I’ll try to focus on one console game, one handheld game, and one mobile game at a time so that I actually finish more of my games! 😉

With that being said, the console game I am currently playing is still Harvest Moon: Animal Parade for the Nintendo Wii. I am still loving this game! I’ve made considerable progress since the last time I posted about it. There are 5 bells to ring in order to restore power to the Harvest Goddess and get everything running as it should be, and I’ve already managed to ring 4 of them! The only one I have left is the Purple Bell, which is literally going to take forever. You have to become friends with 10 people and hear their wishes. Once you hear their wishes, you take the wish to a shrine because they can’t seem to do it their damn selves!

I haven’t quite become friends with anyone yet, though I am currently working on Owen. I also want Owen to become my husband, so I give him the gift of rice every day and he is warming up to me, haha!

He gave me a gift… I think he likes me! 😉

Honestly, it doesn’t bother me that it is going to take awhile to ring the Purple Bell. I have so many upgrades I need to make to my farm, and there are so many different things to do, this game will keep me busy for a long time! Here is a screenshot of my current progress:

And this is how much money I’ve made so far. Not bad at all!

As far as handheld gaming goes, I’ve decided to forge ahead with The Legendary Starfy for the Nintendo DS. It is a fun game, but for some reason I play it, then put it away for long periods of time without actually finishing it! I’m going to try really hard to see this to completion, though. The last level I beat in this game was a boss battle against King Ping:

Starfy is happy, but I’m aggravated!

This guy was a total annoying douche who killed me a bunch of times because the attacks in this game are extremely cheap and you die way easier than you actually should! Ugh! I finally beat him though, and now I am getting ready to enter Sogwood Forest, which should be super wonderful.

World 4-1: Sogwood Forest: In a Fog is the exact name of the level I am currently on, in case you care!

In the world of mobile gaming, I’ve picked back up Juice Cubes on my iPhone! It’s a cute little game I’ve played before but never beaten, and the developers have added many levels on since the last time I’ve played. This game has a fun summertime vibe that I figured is perfect since it’s now summer! I’ve started from the beginning just to get myself re-acquainted with the game, so I’m only on Level 3!

The “Target Score” is actually just my high score since I’ve already beaten the level. I don’t know what the original Target Score is!

Even though there are three main games I am focusing on, there’s always room to play one of the Animal Crossing games! 🙂 Currently I’ve been playing Doubutsu no Mori for the Nintendo 64. I want to finally pay off my house! So I’ve been fishing, digging up fossils, and shaking trees to try to make tons of Bells! It’s been raining every time I play lately, but I don’t mind. The rain is soothing in all of the Animal Crossing games!

I just realized how much this screenshot sucks- you can’t really tell it’s raining! Oops!

I currently owe 339,000 Bells on this current expansion, so it’ll be awhile before my house is paid off.

There’s also always room to play Pokémon GO as well! I’ll do a separate post at the end of the month to fill you in on the new Pokémon I’ve acquired! 😉

So there you have it for the games I’ve been playing lately! I wish I had more time to play, but what else is new!

First Impressions: Pokémon: Magikarp Jump!

When I first saw that there was going to be a mobile game based on the most “pathetic” Pokémon there is, I couldn’t help but laugh! Poor Magikarp… I always liked it even though it really doesn’t do much but flop around! Since the game is free, I didn’t hesitate to check it out!

The game begins with Mayor Karp telling me all about how Magikarp is a great jumper despite its useless appearance, so my goal is to raise Magikarp to win in eight different jumping leagues!

I grabbed a fishing rod and fished up this beauty:

You level up your Magikarp by earning JP, or Jumping Power. You get this by completing simple training exercises and eating food in your pond.

After doing some training and getting my Magikarp leveled up a little, I competed in my first battle and won!

I then realized that I could nickname my Magikarp… so I named him Floppy! 🙂

I had Floppy compete in another Battle, and my trainer ranking increased to Rank 2! I figured this was enough for one day, so I went ahead and ended my game.

Here’s the funny thing about this game: there really is not much to it. Everything is random! You don’t actually DO anything during the training exercises; the amount of JP awarded is random. You don’t DO anything during the Battles except watch and see of your Magikarp jumps higher.

And yet.. I actually do like this game. It’s fun to see what kind of Magikarp you will fish up and what they will do. There are a lot of decorations you can put in your pond, and other Pokémon will come to hang out with you sometimes. Supposedly your Magikarp can actually get eaten, but that hasn’t happened to me yet!

Since my initial playthrough, I have played a little bit more. I raised Floppy to the highest level it could go, so it competed in one last battle… and won!

Floppy retired happily.

In the meantime, Pikachu came to visit…

I reached Trainer Rank 3…

And I fished up a new Magikarp, whom I named Flappy 😉

Flappy is currently at Level 5, and Floppy is chilling in the background watching her grow!

Even though this game is more passive than anything, it’s still amusing to see what will happen next!

More Fun Stuff!

I had a gift card to Best Buy (leftover from Christmas) and there was only $8 left on it. About a month ago, all of the Animal Crossing Amiibo went on sale there, and suddenly I knew what I was going to spend my $8 on! 😉

Now, as you all probably know, I am a huge fan of Animal Crossing. However, when the Animal Crossing Amiibo all came out, I abstained from buying most of them. I got Isabelle and Digby, but only because they came with Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival. I LIKED the Amiibo well enough, but I try to only buy figures that I REALLY love, and none of those particular characters were my absolute favorites. But I can’t resist a good deal, and when I see Amiibos dirt cheap, I have to get them! 😉

I ended up getting Mabel and Tom Nook, both for $1.99 each…

And the set of Cyrus, K.K. Slider (okay, I do really love him), and Reese for only $3.99!

I’m pretty happy with my purchases! While I was there, I found this ADORABLE Mimikyu box set that I couldn’t resist:

Mimikyu’s story just breaks my little heart! Apparently its true form is so ugly and terrifying, it can’t show itself or people will die or something like that. So it puts on a rag to make itself look like Pikachu so it can make friends. 😦 Anyway, this set came with a pin and a special Mimikyu trading card.

Here’s a close-up of the pin, just because it’s so damn cute!

It also came with 3 booster packs! Now, I haven’t purchased Pokémon cards in a long time, but it was still fun to get these and open them up! Each pack came with 10 cards- 8 Pokémon cards and 2 trainer cards.

Here’s what I got from the first pack (Fates Collide)…

the second pack (Sun & Moon)…

and the third pack (also Sun & Moon).

I normally don’t keep “trainer” cards because I don’t actually play the card game, I just like to collect all the Pokémon! 😉 I did keep the Ultra Ball trainer shown in the third pack though, just because it looked fun and shiny!

On a subsequent trip to Best Buy, I bought this:

I love Mario Party games even though they can be extremely aggravating, and I own all of them. It’s my dirty little secret! Actually, I was thinking about planning some Mario Party posts, so stay tuned for that! 🙂

And just because it’s nice to treat yourself sometimes, and I’ve had a really shitty year, I bought myself a couple cheap things on Amazon. 😉 The first is Persona 4: Golden for the PS Vita!

Since I started playing Persona 4: Dancing All Night and realized that iT was semi-sequel to P4G, I figured I needed to start at the beginning and play P4G first! I’m so looking forward to diving into this game.

I also got the Super Mario Adventures comic book!

In case you aren’t familiar, Super Mario Adventures comics were actually first published in Nintendo Power magazines. This book is the entire collection of comics, and I can’t wait to read it! It’ll be a fun, easy read.

Also, this panel depicting a Boo biting Mario’s ass made me laugh way more than it should have:

Anyway, those are some more goodies I’ve acquired recently. 🙂

Unexpected Goodies From The Dollar Store!

Well, first of all, I just wanted to say that unfortunately, yesterday I went to my 3rd funeral this year 😦 My husband’s grandmother passed away two weeks ago. She suffered from dementia for many years so I don’t want to say it was a “good” thing, but I’m happy she’s no longer suffering. Seeing her decline over the years was very sad to watch, so it’s comforting to know she’s now free of that burden. Moving on to something a little happier…

While at the dollar store not too long ago, my husband got me a little present: A Pokémon Fun Pack! It looked super cute, and I couldn’t wait to open it up and check it out!

The first item inside was a felt poster of Pikachu, a Poké Ball, and Ash!

The second item was a sheet of adorable stickers. They are so cute, I almost don’t want to use them anywhere!

The third item is a sheet of stencils. The stencils are of Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, and a Poké Ball. It was hard to take a good picture of this, as it reflected the light too much. Hopefully you can see the stencils!

The final items in the pack were a 24-page coloring book and a set of crayons!

This is an adorable little pack. For only $1, you actually get quite a bit of stuff! 🙂

Why I Love… The Super Nintendo!

For this month’s Why I Love… post, I decided to show some love to my favorite video game console of all time. I do love each and every console I own for different reasons, but one stands a little bit above the others. Maybe it’s just nostalgia talking, but I just can’t help but love The Super Nintendo Entertainment System! 🙂

Just looking at it makes me smile!

I had an awesome group of neighborhood friends that I hung out with constantly when I was younger, and though it’s been many years since I’ve talked to any of them, I think of them all pretty fondly! Anyway, two of them (Stacey and Jason) both had Super Nintendos, and I loved playing it at their houses. The game I remember playing the most was Donkey Kong Country!

So many good times with this game!

After awhile, I really wanted an SNES of my own. As I wrote in my April Why I Love… post, my first system was the Game Boy, which also holds a very special place in my heart. I played the hell out of it and never got bored with it. I still loved my Game Boy, but the idea of playing a console on my TV screen was so much fun, and I didn’t want to always have to go to my friend’s houses to play one!

Once again, my mom was awesome and bought me an SNES of my own! I was 8 years old at the time. One of my first games was Super Mario Kart, which I played SO MUCH! My neighborhood friends and I held a contest once to see who was the best Super Mario Kart player, and I won 😉

This version of Rainbow Road still gives me a heart attack…

Of course, I was in love with Donkey Kong Country and its sequels! I played DKC so much I think I still have muscle memory of that game to this day. I know just where the enemies are going to pop up! With this game, I got my uncle Chris interested in video games. He played DKC and Kirby’s Dream Course, and he was hooked! When he got married to my aunt Kelly, they even asked for an SNES and those two games as a wedding present! 🙂

Screenshot from Kirby’s Dream Course… so many fun, unique levels in this game!

It’s probably no coincidence that my favorite game of all time is on my favorite system of all time! I’m talking, of course, about Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. If you haven’t already, you can read why I love this game so much in this post.

I will never get tired of this game!

When I was a kid, I thought the SNES was going to remain current forever. I didn’t really have a grasp on advancing technology, so when the Nintendo 64 was announced, I was PISSED! I remember reading the Nintendo Power magazine in the grocery store while I was shopping with my grandma. I was telling her how it was so unfair that the were releasing the Nintendo 64 because that meant they would stop making games for the SNES… and I would NEVER EVER want one because the Super Nintendo was all I needed! Silly little me… I soon realized that it was a good thing that a new console was coming out and that it was okay to have different ones! 🙂

I was NOT happy about the N64!

I have so many other good memories of the SNES, I could go on forever about it. All the games I own for it hold a special place in my heart. Whether I was stomping on Kremlings in Donkey Kong Country, saving Baby Mario in Yoshi’s Island, or shooting down zombies and other ghouls in Zombies Ate My Neighbors, I had an infinite amount of fun with this system. To me, the SNES defined my childhood, and I can’t imagine life without it!
