Before I say anything else, if you have this game and want to add me as a friend, here is my friend ID. The more the merrier!
I have been waiting
impatiently for the chance to play Animal Crossing on my phone for quite some time now! When the Nintendo Direct officially announced Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp in October, I couldn’t wait! The release date was vague- “late November” was all it said! Ugh! Even though our friends in Australia were able to play right away, I decided to be patient and hold out for when it was released in the U.S.
To tide us over, they had a little mini-game called Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Friend Finder, which was played in your browser. Katrina the fortune teller paired you up with an animal friend and tasked you with finding different missing items in four different locations. Once all the items in a location were found, you were able to save a picture of the location to use as a wallpaper on your phone! Pretty cute little distraction. I managed to find all the missing items- here’s my wallpapers, featuring my friend Rosie!
After that, an official release date was given- November 22nd! Woo hoo! But can you believe those sneaky bastards released the game a day early?! My friend and fellow Animal Crossing addict texted me at 7:30 a.m. telling me “It’s out today I’m downloading it now.” Of course, I downloaded it IMMEDIATELY, but then had to trudge off to work, so I couldn’t play all day. 😦 When I finally got home, ate dinner, and cleaned up, it was time to play! So what were my first impressions of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp? Let’s find out!
The moment the title screen popped up, I was so happy! I never imagined being able to play a game from a franchise so beloved to me on my phone!! I couldn’t wait to get started.
I got a greeting from K.K. Slider, who I hope to see again soon!
I then made my character. She is adorable! 😉
I met up with Isabelle, who introduced me to the basics of the game and asked what kind of campsite theme I liked the most. I chose the natural theme, because I felt like that fit the idea of having a “pocket camp” the most. Plus, Goldie is a fan of the theme, and she is so cute!
There is a map you can open up on the bottom part of your screen, and this allows you to go to many different locations! I went to Breezy Hollow first, because Goldie was there and she needed a favor!
Look how cute she is, warming up a pot over the fire!
I completed a couple simple tasks for her, and I got some Bells as well as some crafting materials. These materials are used to make furniture and other items. So cool!
Here’s a couple other screenshots of my time in Breezy Hollow!
Apparently, the more you talk to, interact with, and complete requests for the villagers (are they still called villagers in this game? Or are they referred to as campers?) you can level up your friendships with them as well. You can bet I will try to be best friends with every damn one of them! 😉
Back at my campsite, Isabelle set up a few pieces of furniture she thought I would like. Thanks, Isabelle! That’s a great start!
I also met Reese and Cyrus and crafted my first piece of furniture.
Once you place certain items of furniture down, it will attract certain animals to your site. Goldie was the first one to come check my place out!
I then traveled to another area, where I did some fishing and met up with Filbert.
I also found a random human traveler, which was neat! I think it will be fun to meet up with different people.
Besides your campsite, you also have an RV that you can decorate and paint!
One last thing I did before ending my game for the day was meet up with the three bad ass birds who are in charge of customizing your RV!
I didn’t hesitate to paint mine black and red 😉
After returning to my campsite, I invited Filbert over for a visit, then called it quits for the night!
Words cannot explain how much I love this game already! I am so excited and happy that there is now a mobile Animal Crossing game for us all to enjoy. You can spend a lot of time playing if you want, but you don’t really need to. This is a game you can easily spend 5 or 10 minutes here and there to do a couple things throughout the day without having to spend a lot of time on it. I love the fact that there are so many customization options, and the possibilities seem endless at this point! I’m really looking forward to seeing where this game will go!
P.S. I’ll post updated screenshots of my camp at a later date. I’ve made quite a bit of progress since the game’s release: I’ve already invited several animals to my site, built several amenities and furniture pieces, etc. Right now there is a Christmas event going on so I’m trying to collect all the furniture for that! 🙂
