About The Game

Dr. Mario was originally released in 1990 for the Nintendo Entertainment System. I played it on the NES Classic, which was released in 2016.

What is Dr. Mario about? Fuck if I know. I hate this game. He throws different colored pills at shitty little viruses to make them go bye bye. It was fun for about 5 seconds.

Mario is there. Mario is cool.

What I Didn’t Like

THIS GAME. FUCK. I like puzzle games a lot, I really do. I thought I liked this game. It just really started to get on my last nerve because it just isn’t FUN to me. I made it to Level 7 before I got a game over. I beat my high score, so I consider the game “beaten” even though I know I will NEVER EVER go back and try to clear more levels.

Oh, and the fucking awful music will invade my brain until the end of time.

No.

********

I realize I’m probably in the minority because most people seem to really like this game, but it just didn’t click me for some reason! And I tend to stay away from things that piss me off, and this game pisses me off so… *shrugs*. Don’t take my really awful mini review as the last word though- try this game out for yourself and see if you like it! 🙂

  1. Blasphemy! And I’m reading this on Mario Day of all things o.O!!!! I’m kidding; you’re allowed to hate it lol. The music is totally ear worm material, and I started whistling Fever the minute I saw the title of this review, but I love that song. For some reason no one else in my family agreed; they liked Chill, which has like ZERO melody. I can beat the game if I start on the lowest level, but the final 20th one it’s viruses nearly all the way to the top, and I failed my first two times. Not everyone is going to like everything, even retro classics, and that’s okay! 🙂

    1. lol oh no!! I’m sorry you had to read this on Mario Day!! 😉 I think the day I played Dr. Mario I was tired and that probably wasn’t the best way to approach the game, haha! I can see how people would enjoy the game though! The music is ear worm material… it’s stuck in my head now, and all I did was read your comment lol!! I saw how hard that last level was, so that’s awesome that you beat it! You never know, someday I might revisit it when I’m more well-rested 😉

      1. LOL, it’s okay. I’ve…definitely been there. I get so cranky when I’m tired and I’ll do something that’s super popular and be annoyed that everyone loves it when all I’m seeing are the issues. I think I become more contrarian when I’m tired. My brother ran into that when he saw Captain Marvel the first time. He didn’t like it, but when he saw it again he did lol. That happened to me with Da Vinci Code. I’d just finished the book and the movie makes some changes, and that irritated me lol. I didn’t like the movie at first, but when I watched it later when I was further removed from the book I enjoyed it.

      2. Oh yeah, my mood is definitely affected when I’m super tired! Even cheery things will aggravate me lol! And like you, sometimes it will take me awhile to warm up to stuff. I’m like that with music… usually takes me a few listens to decide whether I like the song or not! Hmm, I’ve never seen or read Da Vinci Code! When it came out, someone told me you really had to sit there and think about what you were watching, and I passed on it. I’m sure you would recommend the book over the movie though?

      3. Oh god, if I’m tired and cranky, do NOT try to be overly cheery. I hate patronizing and pandering so it’ll just annoy me more.

Hm, I’m trying to work on my elitism because it’s really not cool and reading is reading tbh. Dan Brown books are contemporary fiction/best sellers so they’re pretty much geared towards all reading levels. I’ve read The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, and I’m pretty sure his other ones follow the same formula. TBH the movie wasn’t bad! Tom Hanks is always charming and Sir Ian McKellen is in it, too. It’s definitely worth checking out 🙂

  2. I own this game and was never into it or Tetris for that matter. For some reason, they just don’t do much for me. I stay away from puzzle games in general for this reason 🙂 I enjoyed reading your review and knowing it isn’t just me who doesn’t like Dr. Mario!

    1. I’m glad to find some others who feel the same, haha! It’s not the worst game ever or anything like that, I just like other games way more! I do like Tetris and will still play every once and awhile. I actually used to play a game on my Game Boy called Tetris Blast a lot when I was a kid… that’s probably my favorite puzzle game!

      1. I don’t think I’ve played Tetris Blast but I would certainly give it a try! Now that I think about there are a few puzzle games I have enjoyed. I remember playing a Nintendo one I liked with Wario in it as a kid. I think it might be Wario’s Woods. That would make sense because I love the character 🙂

      2. Tetris Blast is pretty fun and different! Oh yeah, Wario’s Woods is fun! I actually played a few levels of that since it’s on the NES Classic as well and was gonna write a little post about it! And since Wario wasn’t featured in too many games back then, I can see how you would be drawn to that game since you like him!! 🙂

      3. 🙂 If you do decide to write about Wario Woods, I’d love to read it. I may have to hunt it down in the near future and play some myself!
