Lovin’ My Backlog!

Back in February, the always awesome Lightning Ellen did a little post showing some love to her backlog, and encouraged others to do the same. Now, I’m no stranger to the backlog… I have an account on Backloggery keeping track of all my games and the progress (or lack thereof) that I’ve made with them! The number of games I have backlogged might be artificially inflated to some of you, because I also have listed all games in mini consoles I own as well as a bunch of mobile games. But hey, I figured it was important to list everything I have, not just games for the main console! In addition, I have all of my husband’s games listed… so yeah, there’s quite a few games I haven’t managed to play yet!

Anyway! For the sake of this post, I’m going to write about games that I have in my backlog that I have never played- not games I’ve played but haven’t beaten.

The State of My Backlog

Haha… Backloggery tells me I have 703 games I’ve never played! Oops! Remember, that number is greatly inflated due to games I haven’t played on mini consoles. I have a little tiny arcade console that has like 200 games on it, the Sega Genesis Flashback has 85 games on it, the Atari Flashback has 101 games on it, etc.! It’s easy to see why I haven’t tried all those games out yet. If you don’t count all those games, my number is probably somewhere closer to 300. Still a lot!

Most of the time I get games because I know for a fact it is something I like and will enjoy… but I also buy shit just because it’s cheap sometimes. GameStop had a period of time where they had a ton of Nintendo DS games for sale, and I probably bought like 20 of them for 99 cents- $2 each. Yep. I love games, what can I say?

Game most likely never to be played

Browsing through my list, I’m going to go with a game called Chaotic: Shadow Warriors for the Wii. I don’t even know what the hell this is or why I bought it. It must have been super cheap! I won’t say that I’ll NEVER play it, because I really do want to play all my games at some point, but it’ll be a long while before I get to it.

Shortest game

I’m going to choose Wheel of Fortune for the NES. I bought this a few years ago and still haven’t tested it. Too late to return it if it doesn’t work, I guess! Anyway, it probably won’t take too terribly long to get through a round of Wheel of Fortune, so there you go!

Longest game

I have a few lengthy RPGs in my backlog, but I think I’m going to go with Persona 4 Golden for the PS Vita. People easily sink 100 hours or more into Persona games, and I’ve been itching to play this one for awhile!

Game which has spent the most time on the backlog

Ha… probably Ranch Rush, I game I bought for the PC many years ago. So many years ago, it probably won’t even work at this point.

The person responsible for adding the most entries to your backlog

Though I have received many great suggestions, in the end, I have no one to blame but myself! 😉

There you have it- a little peak inside my robust backlog! Far from ashamed of it, I’m actually pretty proud of the game collection my husband and I have!! Now if only we could become millionaires and have a bunch of free time to just sit around and play games…

  1. Chaotic is apparently a Danish trading card game that had a companion TV series in the mid to late ’00s. There used to be an online version of the card game, but it sounds like it’s in rights hell at the minute, as no-one seems to know who “owns” it any more.

That Wii game you’ve got there appears to be an action game spinoff rather than a direct adaptation of the card game. It had a moderately positive, mostly indifferent reception if you put any stock in review scores. (I don’t!) It might actually be worth a look if you’re at all interested in weird obscurities.

    1. Oh wow, thanks for the great information! I had NO idea! I’m normally pretty good at remembering when/why I picked up a game, but I really drew a blank when looking at this one.

I’m like you, I don’t put too much stock into review scores… if a game looks fun to me, I’ll play it, even if it scores low! And if I’m not interested, I steer clear, even if it wins Game of the Year awards! I’ll definitely be playing Chaotic at some point!! 🙂

  2. This was fun to read! 🙂 Persona 4 (non-Golden) took under 100 hours (I want to say around 80 hours but who is counting :)) to beat and it is a great game. I think it is my favorite Persona because the characters and story are excellent. Persona 3 is the time killer and is more like 120 hours or something like that. Definitely give P4 a shot when you have time to play an RPG!

    1. Thanks, I had fun typing it up! 🙂 Ah, that’s good to know… I knew it was quite a lengthy game, but I’m okay with that! Oh wow, I’ve never played Persona 3 but I’ve heard it takes awhile to get through! I’m the type that doesn’t mind playing lengthy RPGs now and again, so P4 will probably be one that I fire up pretty soon 🙂

      1. Me too. The Persona games are definitely for you then. It will take a few hours for it to get going but once it does, I think you’ll really like it 🙂 You’ll have to share your thoughts here on your blog when you play it!

  3. And I thought I was a lunatic with 250ish lol, but as you said that number is inflated. I have a fellow blogger to blame for not only adding games to my list, but selling me games on the cheap. I’m literally Trash talking because it’s my friend Trash lol. When you can buy 10 games for $75, you’re not going to turn it down, and when the seller is a fellow RPG enthusiast, you also know you are giving away years of your life. I’m at the point though where I’ll DNF a game if it’s not jiving with me. Then I can say I played it and no one can call me a liar :p

    1. Haha! I know, the number seems outrageous, but for some reason my OCD makes me include all those games even though I probably don’t need to! 😉 I mean, I would like to play them all at some point, so having them all listed does help. Heehee, it’s okay to trash talk when their name is Trash! 😉 I hear ya… it’s hard for me to turn down a good bargain too. And I’m learning how to just finally call it quits on games I’m not enjoying either! At least I can say I tried it and moved on! 🙂
