Celebrating Kirby With: Kirby’s Dream Land!

Despite the fact that my last Celebrating Kirby post was two months ago (god, I slack on EVERYTHING) I am still trying to continue toward my goal of playing every Kirby game I own to celebrate his 25th anniversary! Oh well, any progress is STILL progress, right?

After playing Hoshi no Kirby, the next game on the list is Kirby’s Dream Land!

Kirby’s Dream Land was released for the Nintendo Game Boy in 1992, not long after Hoshi no Kirby was released in Japan. As I’ve mentioned before, they are the exact same game… but it’s still fun to have both in my collection anyway!

Since I already did a more thorough write up of my Hoshi no Kirby gameplay, I won’t go level by level with Kirby’s Dream Land. Nevertheless, here are a few screenshots from my gameplay!

Kirby’s Dream Land is a very short game, but I really loved playing it when I was a kid. I also studied the manual extensively when I was a kid, looking for hidden secrets within the text. I, um, ate a lot of Butterfinger candy when I was younger:

HAHA! So gross! I’ve pretty much given up the habit of eating messy things and reading, thank goodness. Anyway, this is a game that will always hold a very special place in my heart, and I still love to revisit it from time to time!

Next up to celebrate my favorite pink puffball is Kirby’s Adventure! Hopefully I’ll write about it soon instead of waiting another two months! 😉

Celebrating Kirby with: Hoshi no Kirby!

All righty, let’s start celebrating Kirby’s 25th anniversary! 🙂 As I’ve previously mentioned, I’m going to play through all the Kirby games I own as a way of celebrating the little pink puffball! A couple things to note:

  • I’m only going to play virtual console versions/ re-releases if I currently have them. Some I have downloaded, some I have not!
  • I’m only going to play games that have Kirby as the main character- no cameos! Sorry, Super Smash Bros. 😉
  • I’ll play a game for a maximum of three days before moving on. If I beat the game in that time frame, great; if not, it’s all good!
  • I’ll be playing the games in chronological order. Can’t do it any other way!

With those things out of the way, the first game up is Hoshi no Kirby for the Game Boy!

Hoshi no Kirby was released in Japan in 1992. It’s the only Japanese Kirby game I have, and I’m quite fond of it… even if it is just Kirby’s Dream Land. 😉

Anyway! I’ve beaten Kirby’s Dream Land many times over, but never played all the way through Hoshi no Kirby! It’s a pretty short game, so I knew I could make it through in one sitting.

I started out in Green Greens…

which is a pretty easy, breezy level.

The boss is Whispy Woods, a tree that always has a bad attitude for some reason!

Next up I ventured into Castle Lololo…

which ups the difficulty just a bit, and has cool spooky enemies!

The bosses are Lololo and Lalala, who like to push boxes at you for no reason at all. Cute little jerks they are!

Next I traveled to Float Islands…

I always loved the water here for some reason. The little stars in it make it seem so inviting!

The boss of this stage is Kaboola. I did well against her (yes, she is a girl) but suffered a REALLY CHEAP FUCKING DEATH after I defeated her. I got stuck up in the corner of the screen and died right when I was going down to collect my star. That meant I had to fight her all over again! Lame! Ugh, whatever, I carried on…

to Bubbly Clouds!

This stage is home to one of the most terrifying creatures in the Kirby universe: Scarfy. Cute and cuddly looking, it quickly turns into some hell beast that wants to eat your face off if you try to suck it in. Check it out biting me:

Anyway, the boss of this level is Kracko. A giant floating cloud with an eyeball… that’s not nightmare inducing either, no sir!

After kicking Kracko’s butt, I headed to Mt. DeDeDe…

In this final stage, you have to replay all the bosses again before taking on King DeDeDe himself.

He takes a little bit of patience, but as long as you don’t try to rush, he’s easy to beat!

After DeDeDe was defeated, peace was restored to Dream Land!

Oh yeah… after the credits roll, this screen pops up.

This little cheat code allows you to play the “Extra Game” of Hoshi no Kirby. In this version, enemies are faster and more plentiful and the bosses are harder, too!

So there you have it for Hoshi no Kirby! I’m happy I finally played this one all the way though, just to have it checked off my backlog.

Next up is Kirby’s Dream Land for the Game Boy. Yep, I know I just played the Japanese counterpart, but I said I was going to play ALL the games I had, so there! 😉

Oh yeah, and P.S.: I had originally intended to play this game on my actual Game Boy. I figured it would be cool for nostalgia purposes to play the game in its true form! However, I couldn’t get my Game Boy to work for the life of me. 😦 I suspect something is wrong with the screen, but I’m not 100% sure. I may try to repair it (which I have no experience with) so hopefully it’s not dead!

My Gaming Week in Review (8/28- 9/03)!

Nintendo Wii

Last week, I dusted off my Wii Fit board and started playing Wii Fit Plus! Despite the fact that it had been a LONG time since I’ve played, I jumped right back in. I played for a couple days, trying out all the different activities to just get a feel for them once again.

This week, I played twice. I like to do a Body Test every time I play, just to see what my Wii Fit Age is. On Tuesday, it was 32- only 2 years above my actual age, so not bad!

Despite this fact, the game felt it necessary to antagonize me a bit…

Anyway, I decided to focus on Yoga…

And despite my “poor balance” I managed to snag a high score on one of the exercises!

I played again on Thursday, took another body test, and was happy to see that this time my Wii Fit Age was 29! Suck it, Wii Fit!

I focused on Strength Training this time…

And the game found it necessary to antagonize me again!

Oddly enough, my right ankle was hurting me that day, so maybe there was some truth to that statement. Whatever! Then I did a plank and I cracked up…

Those that know me would definitely not describe me as a body builder! Haha! Anyway, I am enjoying the fact that I have gotten back into this game. It has exercises that are easy enough for me to do without feeling like I am going to die, so hopefully I can stick with it for awhile! 🙂

Nintendo Wii U

I decided to show my Wii U some love this week and play Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival. Despite this being a slower-paced game, I still enjoy it. I’m months behind, so I picked the March 2016 board and started playing!

Goldie was the host of the game, and she looked adorable as usual!

Right off the bat, I lost money on almost every space I landed on. Ugh!

Lots of special characters came to visit, including Katie, Katrina, Phineas, Shrunk and Red.

Shamrock Day was the 17th, but nothing really special happened. 😦

There was a Fishing Tourney on the 19th. I caught a bluegill, which got me 3rd place.

I laughed at one of the computer characters, who had an unfortunate incident:

The 27th was Bunny Day! Zipper T. Bunny showed up and told us to look for eggs. I earned 11 Happy Points for finding 11 eggs.

In the end, I got 3rd place. Oh well, I never seem to win when I play this game!

Nintendo Game Boy

I made a little bit of progress in Pokémon Blue this week! First of all, my Butterfree learned Poison Powder, yay!

Finally, I leveled up all of my Pokémon to Level 15, so I was ready to challenge Brock in the Pewter City Gym.

When I arrived at the Gym, some chump dared to challenge me while I was trying to find Brock. I made quick work of his Diglett and Sandshrew. In between fighting his two Pokémon, Squirtle leveled up!

After the battle, my Squirtle evolved into Wartortle! Hell yeah!

I proceeded to Brock, who didn’t seem like that bad of a guy. I kicked his butt anyway! He had a Geodude and an Onyx, and I made quick work of them both.

Wartortle grew to level 17, too! I then received the Boulder Badge for my troubles.

Honestly, I think I may have leveled up a bit TOO much before that battle. My Squirtle/ Wartortle had A LOT of power. Oh well. On to the next Gym!

Nintendo 3DS

I took some time to pay a visit to my little look-alikes in Tomodachi Life, which I haven’t done in forever! It was pretty late when I played, so a lot of them were asleep. My look-alike (not surprisingly) was still awake and was playing with a puppy!

I decided to give her a makeover and change up her interior design. She seemed pretty pleased with it!

Marge seemed pretty… thrilled to see me…

While Frankie was too hungry to think about anything else! I gave him some barbeque, which he loved.

Cheryl complained about her hair…

And I fed Diana something she totally hated! (Can’t remember exactly what it was though, haha!)

Ryu learned to rock & roll…

While Lee and Tové both wondered the same thing!

I discovered that although I had made her awhile ago, I had NEVER stopped in to say hello to Judy! Oops! I felt bad, so I fed her, gave her a new outfit, and changed her interior. Hope we are friends now!

I also realized that I had never spoken to David, but that’s not that big of a deal- I made him the last time I played, and turned the system off before speaking to him.

I then created Jenn, who seems to be quite the happy camper, despite the scowl on her face!

Before I turned the game off, I noticed someone was on top of the tower. I zoomed in and witnessed Carolyn doing something incredibly bizarre. She was leaning backwards, staring at the sky. Occasionally she would wave emphatically! Was she staring at aliens? Is she just nuts? We will probably never find out!

As I wrote about in my last entry, I tried out- and quickly deleted- the monstrosity known as I Am Bread. Uggh! Moving on…

I had quite a productive week in Pokémon GO! In one trip,  I managed to catch a Krabby, an Eevee, and a Staryu!

I then hit Level 5 and caught an Oddish! I really like his little smile 😉

An egg I had been incubating hatched, but it was only a Rattata!

I then caught an Exeggcute!

After all that, it was time to choose my team. I listened as each team told me why I should join them.

In the end, I chose team Valor! I love the phoenix logo.

My next trip, I quickly caught a Bellsprout. I was heading through downtown in my city- there are a shit-ton of Pokéstops around here! Lucky me!

Next, I earned a medal for catching 10 Flying-type Pokémon. I was then thrilled to catch a Raticate! He was a little asshole too, he broke out of like 5 Pokéballs before I nabbed him! After catching him, I earned another medal, this time for catching 30 Pokémon.

Next, an Abra popped up, followed by a Nidoran! After catching those two, I leveled up, then earned yet another medal!

Overall, I would say it was a very successful week for Pokémon GO. I am still only playing it casually, and I am really enjoying it. I haven’t been to any Gyms yet to train, but hopefully I will soon!

So as you can see, I was able to enjoy several games this week, even if I didn’t play any of them for long periods of time. I am super happy when I get to relax and enjoy gaming, so it was a good week for me! 🙂

My Gaming Week in Review (8/22- 8/27)!

I meant to post this entry last night, but I was really tired and didn’t feel like it! 🙂 I didn’t do a whole lot of gaming this past week, but at least I was able to do a little bit here and there!

Nope, no console gaming this week. 😦

Nintendo Game Boy

Finally got to get back to my Pokémon Blue game a little bit this week! I pretty much only had time to play a little bit each night, but I still got some good training in.

I’ve mentioned this before, but I want all of my Pokémon to be at level 15 before I head to the first Gym. As you can see, Butterfree, Nidoran, and Pikachu are still a little behind.

While training and leveling them up, Butterfree learned Confusion, while Nidoran learned Poison Sting!

By the end of the week, my little bit of playing here or there had them all leveled up to 14. Almost there!

I had some time to play Pokémon GO this week as well! I went out for a walk on Monday night (to exercise, not just to play the game!) and I opened the game to see if I could catch anything. And guess what? I didn’t catch jack shit!

How was there not ONE Pokémon near me?!

Oh well, no big deal! A couple days later, I randomly caught a Jigglypuff…

and a couple days after that, a cute little Weedle was sitting on my knee, so I caught it too! 🙂

I also caught a couple repeats, which I don’t mind at all- the more goodies I get for catching them, the better! At one point, a bunch of Pidgeys kept popping up!

I also earned a medal for catching 10 Normal-type Pokémon.

That’s it for my gaming experiences this past week. See ya!

My Gaming Week in Review (6/19-6/25)!

I thought I would do a little something different and start writing a “gaming week in review” blog post on Saturdays. I normally post blogs during the week about games I am trying out, games I purchase, or other odds and ends, but there is a bit more gaming that goes on that I don’t always write about 😉 I’ll break it down into three categories: Console, Handheld, and Mobile. Enjoy!

Nintendo Wii
The only game I played on a console this week was Animal Crossing: City Folk. I finally decided to spend some time weeding my town so it would look nice for once! I did the area near my house previously, but got lazy and never finished it. Oh, and I randomly planted some flowers that my “dad” sent me on Father’s Day right by my mailbox. I bet I will run over them by accident for sure!

Why in the hell did I get sent flowers on Father’s Day? Shouldn’t I be the one sending the gift?

I was playing at night, so I took some time to enjoy the fireflies (and Truffles creeping in the background).

Truffles was pacing because she lost her house key. Sorry!

Prince told me probably the greatest truth of all time.

Truer words were never spoken, my friend!

And I met my new neighbor, Caroline the squirrel. She’s kind of cute!

Caroline is also my mother-in-law’s name…

I did finish the weeding, which I was very happy about. Now my town better stay nice! 🙂

Nintendo Game Boy
Like I mentioned in my previous blog post, I re-bought 星のカービィ (Hoshi no Kirby) because I felt lame ever since I traded it in many years ago. I of course only played the first level of it, but it was still a lot of fun.

I love this game!

Nintendo 3DS
I played a few more levels of Kirby Planet Robobot! I am now in Area 4: Gigabyte Grounds.

Sounds very “techy”!

The first level was neat- it looked like some kind of weird, post apocalyptic spaghetti dinner disaster! Seriously. Why are there forks in the background with noodles/ wires wrapped around them, and why am I walking around on pieces of bread? I don’t know, but I love it!

I love Kirby’s expression in this shot!

The second level looked much like the first, except there was more fence climbing and lots of poison clouds being blown around that I had to avoid. Also, there were fans that kept trying to push me into enemies and shit. Rude!

Touching those clouds probably isn’t a good idea…

The third level looked pretty cool, and had pretty awesome music to go along with it. There was a lot of trickery with the foreground and background, which was so much fun!

This level was awesome!

I would have played more, but yep… you guessed it… my 3DS needed to be charged!

I played several games on my iPhone this week, included good ol’ Solitaire. Normally I do well with this game, but I played like 4 hands and lost every. single. one. Ugh!

I also played Juice Cubes. At one point, I was stuck on Level 19, which I found highly irritating. I got passed it, though, and I am now on Level 21.

I played/ sucked at Crossy Road a little more too, and I unlocked two new characters! They are New Year’s Doll…

And some weird guy called Capoeira.

He’s pretty funny, because he walks on his hands and flips and does all kinds of weird stuff! This game makes me laugh, even though I am awful at it.

So those are the games I was into this week! I will definitely be playing Kirby Planet Robobot more soon. That game is very addicting! 🙂
