A Different Type of Blog Post.

Since this is a video game blog, I typically don’t blog about many “personal” things. However, I felt the need to share with all my gaming friends that my grandfather (I called him Grampy) passed away last night after nearly a year long battle with lung cancer.

I was very close to Grampy, probably due to the fact that my mom and I actually lived with my grandparents growing up. As a result, he often felt more like a father to me than a grandfather. Even after I grew up and moved out, I still made it a point to visit almost every weekend.

When I first learned he had cancer last year, my heart broke. I wasn’t sure how much time I had left with him, so I (along with the rest of my family) made the best of it. When he was going through chemo, he would take a steroid that stimulated his appetite, so we were constantly getting him all the junk food he wanted- his favorites included Pizza Hut, Chick-Fil-A and Krystals. We hung out, we watched TV (and tons of MMA fights, which he loved), we had fun conversations. I even got a tattoo on my ribcage to commemorate him which, to my surprise, he actually really liked! (He wasn’t big on tattoos at all)

He still kept his humor and his smile as his condition deteriorated. My only hope as the holiday season approached was to have one last holiday with all of us together, and my wish was granted. We gathered in his room on Christmas to watch a DVD of pictures and videos my uncle put together, and he had the biggest smile on his face the whole time. On New Years Eve, we crowded in his room to watch the ball drop on tv, and he again had the biggest smile on his face.

Yesterday, we all told him it was okay to move on. He had suffered enough. He didn’t say much, but he knew we were there. At one point I was holding his hand and when I moved my hand away, he grabbed it back. He passed peacefully at 11:32 p.m.

Though words cannot describe my grief, all I can say is that I am beyond grateful for almost 31 years of being able to spend time with Grampy. I am so grateful that I am so close to the rest of my family as well, and I love them all more than I can even say.

Thanks for reading this. I’ll be back with my regular video game postings soon- anything video game related seems to cheer me up!

Christmas Gaming Goodies!

So, why have I sucked at writing blog posts lately? Because my internet sucks! Right after we moved, our internet provider got bought out by another provider who apparently “doesn’t service” our area, so we are stuck with EXTREMELY SLOW internet! It’s so damn aggravating I haven’t been bothering to get on the internet much. And since it’s the holiday season, there hasn’t been much we could do except just wait to get something better. Hopefully things will change soon! Today our connection seems decent, so I figured I’d take a chance and write a little blog post!

Anyway! Now that my ranting and raving is done, I want to say that I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! The holidays always come and go way too quickly. I had a great Christmas hanging out with my family, and I’m looking forward to New Year’s this weekend when I get to spend time with them as well!

With that being said, my husband got me a few game related goodies for Christmas that I am really excited about! The first thing is a Plug-and-Play console called the Atari Flashback 7!

I’ve wanted one of these things for awhile! We do have an Atari, but it’s nice to have something like this that’s easier to set up versus having to fumble with old, annoying coaxial cables. It’s a bit smaller than the actual Atari, but still looks very faithful to the original. The two controllers are wireless, but you have the option to use your own Atari 2600 controllers, which is pretty cool!

It comes loaded with 101 games, and I can’t wait to check them all out!

The second thing I got was this cute little Pac-Man stress ball!

Haha! This is adorable, and I think I will keep him on my desk! Or take him to work with me and squeeze him to death whenever someone gets on my nerves…

I love how his eyes are actually Pac-Man shaped!

Last but not least, I got a game that I have been very excited about: Animal Crossing New Leaf: Welcome Amiibo for the 3DS! YAY!

I don’t know what the issue has been here in the U.S., but it’s actually been really hard to find this damn game! Stores were really slow to stock it, and even on Amazon the release date was really vague. My husband ordered it on Amazon, then happened to find it in Target! Luckily he was able to cancel the Amazon order!

Anyway, I do realize that I could’ve updated my New Leaf game for free, but there’s a couple reasons why I didn’t do that. One, I didn’t even have enough memory on my 3DS for the update, and moving data is a pain in the ass to me. Two, I wanted to have one town that was in the “old” version of New Leaf and one town that was in the “new” version of New Leaf. This game update is so massive, it’s basically like playing a brand new game! My husband didn’t really seem convinced by my explanation, but he bought me the game anyway! πŸ˜‰

One cool thing about this game is it comes with a free Welcome Amiibo card! Look who I got!

Huck is so cute! I love frogs πŸ™‚ These Welcome Amiibo cards have been really scarce too- in fact, I haven’t seen any in stores at all! I was able to order some off of Amazon (at a normal price, not $20 like some jerks are trying to sell them for) and they should be arriving this week. I can’t wait to see who else I get!

So, that’s it for my Christmas goodies! I really love it all. Once my 3DS is done charging, I am going to fire up Animal Crossing New Leaf:Welcome Amiibo, so there will be an entry about that soon! πŸ™‚

Blog Awards, 1 Year Blogging, and More!

First of all, I want to say a huge thank you to retrOpia, who so graciously nominated me for The Liebster Award…

and YvoCaro, who nominated me for the PANDA award!

It’s so nice of you guys to nominate me for blogging awards… and I will be sure to make an entry about each of them soon! That brings me to my next order of business…

As of November 15th, I have been blogging on WordPress for one year! Wow! Time really flies! I started this blog with no real expectations, but I’m so happy with the friends I have made this past year! I wasn’t sure if anyone would even enjoy reading the journal-style entries that I like to write, but I’m happy there are people enjoying them just like I do! It’s so fun to write about gaming, and I equally enjoy reading about other people’s gaming adventures.

With all that being said, things are finally starting to settle down with us moving to our new house (even though my office still isn’t painted, which means most of my gaming stuff is still in boxes!) which means my entries won’t be as sporadic now! Yay! It’ll be nice to finally get into a routine with playing games and writing again!

Of course, I’ve been sick AGAIN with ANOTHER really rotten cold, so I didn’t make much progress on the house at all this week. In fact, I spent most of my week on the couch reading or sleeping. Today was actually the first day I played a little bit of Animal Crossing: Wild World (VC)! I did play a game on my phone called Lifeline… very interesting! I will do a separate entry on that game soon as well.

Well, I have the next few entries all planned out… one for the Liebster Award, one for the PANDA award, and one for Lifeline, so stay tuned! πŸ™‚

All My Games Packed Up= No Fun!

Just wanted to write a quick entry since it’s been a few weeks since my last one! We are mostly moved into our new house, though it seems like hardly anything is unpacked! I’m pretty OCD when it comes to organizing and having everything “just so,” so as you can imagine, the sight of tons of boxes makes my skin crawl! Hurricane Matthew slowed down our progress a little bit, as we lost an entire weekend worth of work. It’s all good though- our house is coming along nicely, and soon everything will be unpacked and organized!

Of course, this is a gaming blog, so it’s hard to write when all of my games are packed up! Even my 3DS is “somewhere” right now. I’ve been playing on my iPad and iPhone a little bit, but at the end of the day, I’m really too exhausted to do much of anything. Between working all day and then coming home and trying to finish moving in, I don’t have extra time to game. That is sad to me, but I know it’s only temporary πŸ˜‰

Anyway, I expect at least some of my games to be unpacked this weekend, and hopefully I will be able to get back to my favorite hobby very soon!! πŸ™‚

My Kirby Keychain Has Arrived!

My posting will most likely be sporadic for the next couple of weeks, because my husband and I closed on a new house last week! So we are gonna be pretty busy packing, cleaning the new house, moving, etc. I expect that pretty soon all of my game systems are going to be packed away anyway- I’ll probably just leave out my 3DS to play! πŸ™‚

Anyway! I was really excited at work today because my Kirby keychain that I ordered a few weeks ago from Japan finally arrived! Yay! It is SO CUTE! I love the way he looks like he is floating. Here are a couple pictures of it:

It is definitely bigger than I expected! It said in the description for him that you could attach him to your purse or bag, but as you can see from the photo above, he is way too big for my purse! πŸ˜‰ That’s okay, though. I probably wasn’t going to carry it around too much anyway, because I don’t want it to get dirty!

Cheap Kirby Amiibo!

While browsing on Amazon.com a couple days ago, I decided to look up Amiibo on a whim. I had been reading about some Amiibo that were on sale on someone’s Twitter feed, and I guess it just got me in the mood to look them up! Now, I don’t have too many Amiibo, as there are only a few characters that I feel like I HAVE to have. Kirby is one of those essential characters for me, as is Yoshi! And when the Poochy Amiibo comes out in February, I MUST have one- it is the cutest thing I have ever seen!!

Anyway, while browsing, I came across the Kirby Amiibo series. I currently only had Kirby, but I saw that King DeDeDe, Waddle Dee, and Meta Knight were only $4-$5 apiece! Wow! What a great deal! I didn’t hesitate to snatch them up. Plus, I had an Amazon gift card, so I had to spend it on something! πŸ˜‰

I already had the Kirby, but the other 3 just complete the collection!

They arrived today, and I was so excited! The Kirby Amiibo series looks great! I did order one more Kirby-related item to finish off my gift card, but that is coming from Japan and may take a few weeks to get here. I will post a picture of it when I get it!

On a side note:

Yes, notify me immediately when this comes out!Β

OMG I can’t wait for this game! It really looks like fun. Hopefully the Animal Crossing mobile game won’t be too far behind this one…

Updated About Me Page!

When I first created this blog, I made a quick little page stating a couple facts about me and the site. I realize that when people click on a blog, most of the time they want to know more about who is writing, and I didn’t really say much about myself! I’m a private person by nature, but I still went ahead and added a few more details about myself on there, just in case anyone was curious! Just use the navigation to click on the About Me page, or click here to take a peek! πŸ™‚ Thanks for reading!

Dammit, Nintendo Power!

A few weeks ago I read an article about the awesome Internet ArchiveΒ adding Nintendo Power magazines to their vast collection. Nintendo Power was one of my favorite magazines as a kid, and I remember going to BlockBuster or Publix every month with my mom to get the latest issue! I couldn’t wait to read about new games coming out, and I loved the Classified Info. section where they gave you cheat codes. In the days before internet access was a staple in households, this was THE way I got all my valuable information.

Years went by, and though I had several magazines, I eventually got rid of them all to save space. I still kind of regret that decision… and then I saw that Internet Archive had the first 100 issues of Nintendo Power available to read and download! I was stoked!

That was a couple weeks ago, and today is the first day I actually decided to sit back and take a trip down memory lane. And what do I find??

Wait… what?!? Zero items!! What happened? I searched the web for a moment and my fear was confirmed: Nintendo made them take the magazines down. To read more about it, check out this article.

But man am I fucking BUMMED! I didn’t even get a chance to check any of it out! I’m mad at myself for taking so long but it’s not like I could’ve predicted what happened. Maybe Nintendo will give in and allow them to be put back online, but I highly doubt it. 😦 Uggh! What a disappointment.

I Couldn’t Resist The Kirby Plush…

This past weekend, my husband and I were enjoying our last days of vacation by just hanging out and going to a few stores. We went to GameStop, and I wasn’t really expecting to find anything to use my gift card on so quickly. And then…

These Kirby plush appeared! Haha! I saw them and immediately grabbed them all. I couldn’t help myself! Normally I only see these types of plush online, and normally they are more expensive too! I was only going to buy one, but then I thought to myself “What the hell! I’ll just get them all!” πŸ™‚ I may be obsessed with Kirby…

I also bought a couple cheap DS games while I was in there:

SqueeBalls Party and SpongeBob’s Atlantis Squarepantis! I haven’t played either of them, but they are cheap, so who cares if they suck!

And with those purchases, my GameStop gift card was gone. Bummer! However, I feel like it was well spent! πŸ˜‰

Birthday Gaming Goodies!

Yesterday was my birthday, and I had a wonderful day!Β My husband gave me several fun video game related goodies, which I will now share! πŸ™‚

First of all, I got an external hard drive for my Xbox 360. My 360 didn’t come with much hard drive space, so it’s great to have an extra 20GB!

I also received a Legend of Zelda Collector’s Edition Yahtzee! This is really cool, because I have never even seen this before. Plus, I love Yahtzee, so it’s a win-win!

I also got this super cool “Retro Machine”. This tiny replica of an arcade cabinet fits in the palm of your hand but is still quite comfortable and easy to play. It has 200 games on it, which I think is pretty awesome! The screen is nice and bright and the few games that I tried out actually look and play really great. I can’t wait to try out all of the games!

I also got the Mega Yarn Yoshi Amiibo, which I am so excited about! I am a huge Yoshi fan and this is just a super cute item to add to my collection! πŸ™‚

Lastly, I got two packs of Animal Crossing Amiibo cards (series 3). I got a couple doubles, but plenty of new ones too.

So, lots of fun stuff for my birthday! My husband also got me a gift certificate to GameStop, so I’m sure I’ll be purchasing something from there very soon! πŸ™‚
