Beating Yoshi’s Woolly World!

As I mentioned in my Gaming Week in Review (2/05- 2/11) post, Michael and I recently beat Yoshi’s Woolly World for the Wii U! We had left off on World 5-6 the last time we played, and we thought we were almost through with the game.

As we approached the boss, though, we knew that couldn’t be the end of the game. I mean, no way a boss named Snifberg the Unfeeling was the final boss!

snifbergtheunfeeling
He is kinda cute though…

Sure enough, after we beat Snifberg, Kamek appeared and showed us that he had one more trick up his sleeve. After swirling his little wand around, World 6 appeared, and Bowser’s face was stamped right on it! We knew we were getting down to business!

World 6 pulled out all the stops when it came to trying to kill us! This spiderweb level was tricky, but man were those kissing spiders SO CUTE! Seriously. A little heart appears above their heads when they kiss. I’m sure they put that in the game just to distract you so you will fall off of the web and die, but whatever.

world6_8
Aww!

There were several other tricky levels to overcome on the way to Bowser.

This level in particular was a real pain! You have to hit each colored statue with a specific Shy Guy.

world6_1

Finally, it was time to face Bowser! If you’ve played Yoshi’s Island, this scene will probably look familiar to you. Bowser is basically a big whiny baby that Kamek is looking after.

bowserwhining

He throws a temper tantrum, and the first phase of fighting begins.

bowserfight1

After whooping his butt, you think it’s over…

bowserfight2

But then Baby Bowser gets absolutely humongous! I actually had a blast playing this part. It was so much fun to lob giant pieces of yarn at him!

bowserfight3

After hitting him a few times, that’s it! Bowser goes back to being a little crybaby, and the game is over.

endofgame

Of course, there is a bunch of replay value for this game. Collecting all the hidden yarns in each level will unlock more Yarn Yoshis, and collected EVERYTHING in every level will open up additional (way harder) levels in each world.

Overall, my husband and I loved this game! It was adorable, every level was so well crafted and the characters never looked better! The game held just the right amount of platforming challenge. This is a game I could play through multiple times and still really enjoy!

My Gaming Week in Review (2/05- 2/11)!

Console

NES

Yesterday, my in-laws came over for dinner and we were going to play a board game afterwards, but it was too hard for my mother-in-law to sit up and play one at the table. My husband surprised us all by bringing out Anticipation, a Trivial Pursuit type game made by Rare way back in 1988!

anticipationtitlescreen

Michael and his parents used to play this game a lot when he was a kid, so it was a blast from the past for everyone! I myself did not play this game until Michael and I met 14 years ago, but it’s a fun game that I still enjoy playing from time to time.

We decided to play in teams; Michael and I on one team, his parents on the other. His mom was actually doing pretty good! Like I said, this game is similar to Trivial Pursuit. Your game piece moves along the board, and you land on a colored square. Each square has a different category. Some of the clues are pretty easy:

whatletter

While others are extremely vague. None of us figured out what this was:

whattoolisthis

The goal of the game is to collect one square of each color in each of the three levels. Whoever passes all three levels first is the winner!

anticipationboard

It was a close game, but Michael and I ended up winning. It was fun! It was nice to see my mother-in-law having some fun, since she hasn’t been feeling well lately. Anyway, playing this game made me really happy and I want to play it again soon!

P.S. Sorry for the glare that is present in all the above photos. From where I was sitting, it was hard to get a good picture!

GameCube

I visited my little Animal Crossing village of Branvil this week for the first time in 5 months. The first thing I noticed when I started up the game was that it was snowing, yay!! I think the snow is one of my favorite parts of the game, especially since I never get to see any in real life!

yayforsnow

Sydney moved away, which was a bummer. She’s a cutie!

Maple acted like she didn’t know me.

And Wart Jr. made me laugh with his crazy comment. Apparently I’m a real shady character…

And just like always, Queenie was a big BITCH to me! Why doesn’t she move the fuck away already!

queeniesucks

I met my new neighbor, Buzz. He’s pretty handsome, I think!

He has kind of a weird house, though.

I found a snowball hiding in the flowers, which was kinda strange.

After saying hello to everyone, I spent the rest of my evening pulling weeds and shaking trees! I deposited some money in my bank account, too. I wish it was this easy to make money in real life!

Wii U

As I mentioned in my last post, my husband and I finished our playthrough of Yoshi’s Woolly World this week! What a great game it was. Since I’m going to do a separate blog post about finishing the game, I’ll leave you with a screenshot of an oddly-titled level we played!

I played just one level of The Legendary Starfy this week. Apparently the Hot-Spring Snapper (a really rude rock/ turtle thing) was terrorizing Hotcha Springs, and it was up to Starfy to stop him!

everyonepanic

I had to outrun lava, which was super. It moved kinda slow, but I still almost died trying to take this picture!

dontgetburned

The battle against the Snapper wasn’t too bad. I couldn’t get a decent picture of him to save my life, because he wouldn’t stay still!

stupidrockturtle

I am now on Level 3-1 Chillydip Cove: Snow Starfy. This should be fun!

I played some more Cooking Fever this week.  I’m still working on leveling up my Fast Food Court. It not really as bad as I thought it was going to be grind-wise- I find I can upgrade my stuff after playing one or two levels and getting some coins from them. I just don’t upgrade anymore when the upgrade requires gems, because I feel like I need to save my gems to unlock other places. Here are my current stats:

currentstats

I am currently on Level 36 of the Fast Food Court. Only a few more levels until I am finished!

level36

I also played more Pokémon GO. I was very happy to catch a Growlithe- so cute!

I evolved my Ekans into an Arbok.

I also evolved my Exeggcute into an Exeggutor. Finally! Seems like that took forever.

I also played a game called Strike! Ten Pin Bowling. It’s a simple bowling game that both my aunt and my mom played awhile back- I don’t know if they still do or not! Anyway, it’s a fun, free little game that is a great way to pass a couple minutes.

startbowling

For some reason, though, the game erased all my previous high scores! That annoyed me a little bit. Oh well, not like I’m very good at it anyway!

isuckatbowling

I played some Solitaire this week too, and it seems I’m back on my losing streak.

Finally played some Stardew Valley this week! I haven’t played this game for a couple weeks, and I missed it! 🙂 Anyway, I continued clearing out my farm, and I came across this tiny, cute tree!

cuteliltree

I ran into Haley, who was a bitch as always.

I finally figured out how to fish!

learningtofish

It’s really fun. I only managed to catch one fish and everything else I caught was trash, but it’s all good. I need to catch more fish, because I am broke!

One of my current objectives is to build a coop. With how expensive it is and how many resources I need, it’ll take me awhile!

One night when I went to sleep, a fairy came and made one of my crops grow. I don’t know what that’s all about, but thanks, little fairy!

I also grew to Level 1 Farming.

On the 10th of Spring, Year 1, I had a nice surprise when I woke up and was greeted by a friendly dog!

straydog

Marnie explained to me that he was a stray and asked if I wanted to adopt him! BUT OF COURSE I DO! 😉

talktomarnie

I named him Wicky as an homage to a disabled dog that I worked with who has been gone for almost 2 years now. His name was Nykon, but his nickname was Wicky! He was near and dear to my heart and I loved him so much.

namedthedogwicky

While continuing to clear out my farm, I found a geode. When I took it to the blacksmith, it was some rare mineral or something, and it was advised that I donate it to the museum!

donatecelestine

I didn’t even realize it, but when I donated it, I completed an objective in my journal, so I got a nice little reward for it!

archeologyjournalentry

I then grew to Level 1 Foraging.

level1foraging

I am currently on 11th of Spring, Year 1. This game is becoming addicting!

Misc.

While my husband was out and about earlier this week, he came across some VR (virtual reality) headsets for only $6! They are compatible with both of our phones, so he bought one for each of us. I’m going to do a separate write up on this, but here’s a pic of the headset:

So, looks like I was able to do a lot more gaming this week! That’s always a good thing. Thanks for reading!

My Gaming Week in Review (1/22- 1/28)!

My post is a little late this week, sorry about that! I normally like to post my weekly reviews on Sundays, but I had a terrible headache for a couple days that put me behind. Not that I have that much to write about anyway, but let’s see what games I played this week! 🙂

Console

Nintendo Wii U

Michael and I continued to play through Yoshi’s Woolly World. The game is increasing in difficulty a little bit, but nothing we can’t handle! We finished up World 4, which threw some spikes at us as well as some very strange waterfalls, then we faced off in an epic battle against Petey Piranha!

After kicking Petey’s butt, we moved on to World 5. World 5 is an icy, wintery world that is so pretty! Makes me want it to be Christmas again… anyway, check out some screenshots from World 5!

And here’s an adorable snowman and Mega Yarn Yoshi! 🙂

We left off on World 5-6: Up Shuttlethread Pass. I have no idea what that even means, but I guess we’ll find out!

Handheld

Nintendo 3DS

I had time to briefly visit my Animal Crossing New Leaf: Welcome Amiibo town of Tilt this week. Remember last week how Poppy wanted me to come over, then Genji immediately wanted to come over to my house? Well, they both sent me gifts for hanging out with them! Genji sent me a boomerang, while Poppy sent me an azalea bush. Thanks, friends!

giftsfromfriends

Poppy tried to tell me she was moving away, but I told her hell no. She’s too cute to leave!

Something new is being built on Main Street! What could it be? 😉

Apples were at a premium at Re-Tail, which was awesome because apples are my native fruit! I immediately ran around and shook all the trees so I could make some easy Bells!

I also got my town-development permit. Now I can start Public Works Projects!

I am still having fun playing Cooking Fever, though it is getting pretty hectic! I still find myself easily confused if I don’t pay close attention to what I’m doing.

lotstodo

At one point, one of my soda machines broke down! I didn’t know this could happen in the game. Luckily, it was fixed quickly. I wonder if anything else can break…

brokensodamachine

I’m enjoying upgrading all my items as well as my actual restaurant. I am now at experience Level 8.

I left off on Level 31 of the Fast Food Court. Maybe I’ll finish these levels soon so I can play one of the other venues, like the bakery! Here are my current stats:

currentstats1

As you can see, there’s still a lot of upgrading I can do. This game keeps you busy for awhile, and I like that.

I played just a little bit of Pokémon GO this week. It wasn’t working properly most of the time when I was trying to play, so oh well. I finally evolved my Staryu into a Starmie…

And I caught a Seadra, you guessed it… at work! 🙂 Seadra is the evolution of Horsea, so now I don’t have to worry about evolving the one I have!

I also reached Level 17.

My Gaming Week in Review (1/15- 1/21)!

Console

Nintendo Wii U

Michael and I played through a bit more of Yoshi’s Woolly World this week. Man I love this game! We currently played up to World 4-7: Yoshi Branches Out.

The levels in World 4 include one with a crazy lunge fish that tries to eat you, an underwater level with very weird physics, and one level where you are swinging on curtains the entire time!

One level that really stuck out to me was World 4-6: Spooky Scraps! Don’t Get Spooked!

world4-7

The name of this level made me laugh, but this is one of the most unique and fun levels I have played thus far. Throughout the level, scraps of fabric pass by and reveal walkways and items not seen normally. You can interact with them, but only when you are behind the scraps of fabric as well. Also, when enemies are behind the fabric, they turn into monsters that chase you!

world4-8

I believe there are only 5 Worlds in this game, so we are getting close to the end. Maybe we will finish up the game next week!

Handheld

Nintendo DS

I played just a couple levels of The Legendary Starfy this week. I figured out that the whole point of the game is for Starfy to help Bunston recover his lost memories…

I fought a giant squid (I love Starfy’s expression in this picture!)…

And I played a level that required me to push large rocks around, which was kind of a pain in the ass!

I also came across this weird turtle thing, which obviously really freaked poor Starfy and his friend Moe out!

Nintendo 3DS

I visited my Animal Crossing New Leaf: Welcome amiibo town of Tilt this week to see what my villagers were up to! Frank had something really philosophical to say….

I visited the campground, and Gulliver was my visitor for today. Love the beachy theme in his RV!

I played a game called Cooking Fever this week. I’ve had it on my phone for awhile, but I haven’t played it in quite some time. As you can see from my map below, I only have one restaurant open- the Fast Food Court!

cookingfevermap

Cooking Fever is basically a time management game where customers come up and try to buy items, and it’s up to you to fulfill their orders in a timely manner. At first, it’s pretty easy, but the later levels can get pretty challenging.

easyorder

After playing a little bit, I unlocked the Sports Bar and the Bakery! I haven’t played either of these yet, as I want to finish all the levels in the Fast Food Court first.

unlockedsportsbarandbakery

I am currently on Level 23, and it’s getting pretty tough! The customer’s requests are getting more intricate, and I find myself getting confused easily, haha! It’s a fun game though, and quite addicting. Right now, I’m at experience Level 6.

explevel6

I also played a little bit of Pokémon GO this week. I didn’t do much, but I finally got enough candies to evolve my Meowth into a Persian!

persianpokedex

I then made Caterpie my buddy. I need a few more candies from it to get the final evolution (Butterfree). It’s so cute on my shoulder! 🙂

Also, I came across this bad boy at work! It kind of blends into the shelf a little bit.

wowadodrio

I had no Pokéballs, so I couldn’t even try to catch it! However, its CP was pretty high, so my efforts probably would have been in vain anyway.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I played Stardew Valley this week. I pretty much wrote about everything I did, so I don’t need to repeat it here! However, here are a couple additional screenshots from my gameplay this week! Here we have a nice, rainy day…

My Gaming Week in Review (1/08- 1/14)!

I haven’t done it in a little while, but I thought I’d bring back My Gaming Week in Review for the new year! I always enjoyed writing this type of summary post, and it helps me keep track of my gaming! Let’s see if I can keep up with this on a regular basis- I tend to be awfully flighty, haha! 😉

First, though, I want to say thank you to The Shameful Narcissist who has so nicely awarded me with a blogging award called The Sunshine Blogger Award! 🙂 I’m so excited to receive another reward! I have a couple more blog posts planned, and then I will post all about it!

So, let’s get to what I played this week!

Console

Wii U

Michael and I continued playing Yoshi’s Woolly World this week. We both love this game! It’s so cute and vibrant. Here are some screenshots from World 2:

This level’s name really cracked me up for some reason:

lavascarvesandredhotblarggs

Although the “Blargg” was a very rude creature who kept trying to attack me and push me into the lava! I remember those jerks from Yoshi’s Island…

stupidblargg

The best part about World 2, though, was POOCHY!

poochy5

I love Poochy! Here’s a few more screenshots of him just being awesome!

So we then moved on to World 3…

And we knitted together a few more Yoshis, but I’ll get better pics of them later! We left off on World 4-1, so I’m sure we will continue on with our adventure this week!

Handheld

Nintendo DS

Something I do every now and then is play an “easy” game before bed. Something I don’t have to spend a lot of time or effort on but that is still fun. I decided to resurrect this idea and play a game that is cute, simple, and one that I never played all the way through- The Legendary Starfy!

thelegendarystarfytitlescreen

This game is so adorable. I previously only played through the first 3 levels (shame on me!) so I just started a new game. Despite being underwater most of the time, the controls are actually pretty easy.

Plus, Starfy is just so HAPPY. I mean, just look at the joy on his face when he does something as simple as jump in the air!

sohappy

Ironically, I left off where I did before, but I don’t plan on stopping here! I want to play the game through this time, even if I just play one level before bed at night. In the meantime, enjoy Starfy in his beachwear outfit and sunglasses!

starfybeachwear

Nintendo 3DS

As you probably figured from my last entry, I also played some Tomodachi Life this week. After doing those pictures with my Grampy, I decided to check in on my islanders, many of whom told me they hadn’t seen me in 3 months! Oops!

Anyway, one of the first things I noticed was that Kevin was sad that he and Marge had broken up. He replayed a montage of good times in his head, and it took me forever to get him out of his mopey mood!

kevinandmarge2

However, not more than 15 minutes later, Jason begged Marge to be with him. Frank (Grampy!) tried to say he loved her more, but she still went with Jason. Kevin who?

Also, Dani attempted to hook up with Steve, but he stood her up at the cafe. That bastard!

danimopingforsteve

I found Isabella’s super all-time favorite food…

As well as Skye’s worst-ever food!

And Steve, paying no mind to Dani’s broken heart, wanted some clothes to “up his cool factor.” I found an outfit that said just that in the clothing store, and he loved it!

So, things are just as quirky as ever on Crickie Island. Never a dull moment there!

Mobile

I didn’t do any mobile gaming this week!

PC

Steam

I FINALLY bought and started playing Stardew Valley this week! I have been wanting this game for quite some time, but was holding out for the Wii U version. Once that got cancelled, I decided to buy it on Steam. I’m going to do a First Impressions post of this soon, so stayed tuned for that. But here’s what the adorable icon looks like on my desktop! 😉

stardewvalleyicon

Misc.

Retro Machine

Finally, I played a little bit of my Retro Machine that Michael got me for my birthday last year! For those that aren’t familiar, it’s a cute little tabletop arcade system with 200 games built in! I’ve played some of the games, but not all of them. I want to eventually play through all of them, so I started right at the top with F-22!

f22titlescreen

F-22 is a pretty cool little shooter. It’s kind of like a mix between Space Invaders and Galaga, and its difficulty is pretty unforgiving.

playingf22

At one point, I did get to a boss…

f22boss

but right after I took that picture, I died, and I had to start the level ALL OVER. Bullshit! Oh well. Still fun though!

So those were my gaming adventures this week! See ya!

First Impressions: Yoshi’s Woolly World!

First of all, I just want to thank you guys for all your support. Your messages and comments mean a lot to me. Dealing with my grandfather’s passing is rough stuff, but I’m grateful for all of your kind words!

Second of all, I’ve recently been nominated for the One Lovely Blog Award by bobaandgames! That’s really cool. I’ll be doing a blog entry on that award next 🙂 Now, onto my blog entry!

One thing I thought would be a fun “New Year’s Resolution” of sorts was for my husband-

Hang on, you know what… I’ve been doing this blog for over a year, and I always just type “my husband.” His name is MICHAEL, so from now on when you read about Michael, you know who I am talking about! 😉

Haha, now that that is off my chest… I thought it would be fun for Michael and I to team up and tackle a game together. We used to do it way more often but as of late we’ve always just tackled our own backlogs separately. I proposed the idea to him, and he was on board! I figured I would pick the first game, since it was my idea 😉

Since the Wii U is set up in the living room, it seemed fitting that we would play a Wii U game first! I was going to pick Super Mario 3D World, but when I saw Yoshi’s Woolly World sitting there, looking sad in its wrapper, I knew that would be a great game to start with!

Just starting up the game made me smile- the intro screens are too adorable!

yoshiswoollyworldintroscreenyoshiswoollyworldtitlescreen

There are two game modes to choose from, and we choose Mellow Mode. Yeah, we made sure the game was easier, don’t judge!

mellowmode

After a short introduction where Kamek, who is always a huge pain in the ass, turned all of the Yoshis into yarn, the game began!

beginningstory

We didn’t do two player co-op, we just set it to one player and switched off every level. We played through the entire first World. The game is so cute! I love how it feels like Yoshi’s Island but looks like Kirby’s Epic Yarn. In the first World, we learned basic game mechanics…

To wrap up the night, we played through the first level of World 2, which had some weird wavy walkways in it!

We also knitted two Yoshis back together: Treetop Yoshi…

and Yoshimelon!

yoshimelon

Apparently collecting all the yarn in each level will knit back together another Yoshi. We definitely missed a few, but we’ll probably go back for them another time. I always like to play though and beat the game first, then go back for extras later.

Conclusion:

This is a very fun, sweet game! I love the aesthetic, and the gameplay is fluid and easy to pick up. I cannot wait to play through more of it and knit even more Yoshis back together! 🙂
