We laid my Grampy to rest yesterday. While it definitely is not easy to accept the fact that he is gone, there is at least one place where he is immortalized in the gaming world. That place is Crickie Island, my family’s virtual home in Tomodachi Life!
Here, Grampy will be forever hanging out with everyone, free to do what he wants! Here he is striking a pose with one of his signature phrases…
Here he is with my grandma…
His 6 children…
His 7 grandchildren…
And his 5 great-grandchildren!
I wanted to pose him with all of our spouses too, but it only let me put a certain number of people in each photo even though it was a “group shot.” Ugh!
Anyway, playing this game and seeing him alive and well in it actually brings me some happiness because I can actually see aspects of his personality in his Look-Alike! It’s not the same as being with the real person, of course, but knowing that I can at least visit him in this virtual world whenever I want makes me feel just a little bit better.
I really, REALLY want to clear out some of my backlog this year, so I’m getting started right away by playing games I’ve bought but haven’t even touched yet! Some of my games are still packed away so I decided a portable game would be best to start with for now. I settled on Fantasy Life, and game for the 3DS that I bought some time ago. It was still sealed in its wrapper and everything. Sad! I’ve been interested in Fantasy Life for awhile. I love how you can choose a Life for yourself (the game capitalizes the “L” in Life, so I will too!), build that Life up, then switch to a completely different path! This seems like it will keep things very fresh and exciting. I know how I am, and I’m sure I’ll eventually want to master all 12 different Life paths. I’m a glutton for punishment, I know!
The game starts out with a surprisingly robust character customization screen. I spent quite a bit of time trying out all the different facial features, eyes, hair colors, etc. on my character. Of course, I modeled her after myself. I seem to have an issue making random characters! Right away, the game asked me to choose my Life path. After thinking long and hard about it, I decided to become a Mercenary first. It just sounds cool!
After a short introduction to the land of Reveria, the game began with me falling out of my bed. My nosy landlady was concerned for me, then she said I needed to check the mail. Okaayyy lady! Talk about random!
I received a letter from the King, telling me to come see him after I had received my Mercenary license.
With that, the Prologue began!
I went to the Guild office and got my novice Mercenary license from a guy who seemed snarky and weird. Oh well.
With license in hand, I started to make my way to the castle. However, I ran into a butterfly that was being bullied by two dim-witted assholes!
I decided to help the butterfly, and the jerks searched my pockets and took my candy. Seriously.
The butterfly was happy I helped her (um, at least I think its a her? I’m just going to keep typing that unless I’m proven otherwise). She then left me to go up to the castle, so I followed suit. When I got there, however, the guards told me I was dressed sloppy and couldn’t see the king like that!
Meanwhile, the butterfly was being told she couldn’t see the King because they didn’t allow insects inside. She tried to play it cool because she knew me, but they weren’t letting either of us inside. I literally have no idea what’s going on here…
The butterfly then had the sneaky idea of turning herself into a bowtie and attaching herself to my clothes. That way, I would be more “dressed up” and she could see the King inconspicuously.
Surprisingly, this scheme worked, and I met the King. He leaves a lot to be desired.
He basically congratulated me on choosing a Life path, then gave me 300 Dosh (the game’s currency).
With that, the Prologue was complete!
After I exited the castle, the butterfly was going to go off on her own. However, she really wanted to just stick close to me, so I told her she could. She was so excited!
After that, I ended my game for the night.
This game is cute so far. The story is a little weird, and I don’t know what a random talking butterfly has to do with anything, but I’ll just run with it! The graphics are a little choppy, but that doesn’t really bother me. I’m anxious to see what happens when I actually start performing tasks as a Mercenary!
I actually had some time over the holidays to dive into Animal Crossing New Leaf: Welcome amiibo for the 3DS, which I was really happy about! I was happy to have the opportunity to start fresh and see firsthand how the Welcome amiibo updates were incorporated into New Leaf!
After answering a few questions for Rover, I stepped off the train and into my new town of Tilt! (Fun fact: Tilt is the name of the arcade my husband and I met at almost 14 years ago!)
Despite telling these cute but hard-headed animals that I was NOT their mayor, they wouldn’t listen to me, and I became the mayor anyway. My new secretary, Isabelle, told me I needed to become a resident before I did anything else.
I found my pal Tom Nook, who set up a tent for me to camp out in until I had enough to make a down payment on a house. Dude, if I’m the mayor, you should treat me a little better than that! Asshole…
Anyway, after that, I planted a tree and officially become the mayor of Tilt!
I then met my new villagers: Poppy, Purrl, Ruby, Tucker, and Genji.
I got a present in the mail from Nintendo, but it was just the instruction manual for the game. Thanks?
I also learned more about MEOW coupons, which you get by completing certain town initiatives like the one below:
You can then trade coupons for items at the campground, which is run by a cool dude named Harvey!
I love the hippie vibe! I’ve had several campers, including Pavé, Zipper T. Bunny, Blanca, Jack, Saharah and Franklin! I haven’t scanned any villager cards just yet.
Since it’s winter, I’ve been making snow people every day, even though this tends to happen:
I didn’t drop that in the pond- a dung beetle pushed it in there! Those things can be so annoying sometimes.
I also found Wisp’s lamp, so I can summon him whenever I want! He’s so cute.
I’ve had several new villagers quickly move in, including Frank, Pashmina, and Julian, with Eloise on her way!
I’ve also managed to fall in a few pitfalls… rude!
I didn’t get to participate in the New Year’s celebration, but I did visit Isabelle and Crazy Redd earlier in the day, and I got a snazzy New Year’s hat to help celebrate!
Last night when I played, the Northern Lights were quite stunning.
Oh, and one last thing… Nookling Junction has yet to sell a damn slingshot, so I’ve had many balloons go sailing right past my head! 😦
I have nothing but praise for this game! I am really enjoying my new town, and I love all the new features that were added to the game. The campground is probably my favorite addition, because you never know who is going to show up each day! I’m so glad my husband got this game for me! 🙂
One thing you probably know about me by now is the fact that I will give pretty much any game a chance, regardless of genre, critical reception, etc. I don’t shy away from games just because they are targeting a “specific audience,” so I’m always keeping my eyes open for new games to play!
One game I definitely would not have sought out on my own accord is Disney Magical World for the 3DS. I’m not a big Disney fan, despite the fact that I grew up in Orlando with Disney World only about 30 minutes from my house! Nevertheless, about a year and a half ago I was browsing some Animal Crossing forums and someone had mentioned Disney Magical World. They said it was a super fun game with elements similar to Animal Crossing and they liked it even though they weren’t a fan of Disney or Disney characters!
Naturally, this statement piqued my interest, so I looked it up online and decided I wanted to buy the game! It had been out for a little while before I heard of it, so it wasn’t really in too many stores. My husband found it at Gamestop and surprised me with it, which I thought was awesome! I played the hell out of that game- and enjoyed every second of it! It’s a Disney game without being too “Disney”- there are Disney characters in it, yes, but they are all part of a bigger story. You could play this game with no knowledge of Disney characters and simply feel like you are in a strange and wonderful world filled with both human and animal characters alike. There are so many different objectives to complete and so many items to collect, this game will keep you busy for a long time!
After playing it for a little while, I switched off to a different game, which is something I do quite often! 🙂 Last weekend, though, I decided to give Disney Magical World some love once more! The first thing I noticed was that I hadn’t played the game since September 2015, which is pretty lame!
I left off having 45 stickers- so technically I am not even halfway done with the game yet. I l have a long way to go!
The first thing I did was put on a Christmas T-shirt 🙂
I was a little out of practice with the game, so I decided to start playing through all of the episodes I had already beaten in each of the worlds (Cinderella, Winnie the Pooh, Aladdin, Alice in Wonderland, and Pirates of the Caribbean). So far I’ve worked my way through Cinderella and some of Winnie the Pooh. One of the Cinderella episodes pissed me off because it had a really annoying glitch. I defeated some enemies and was trying to pick up this gem:
But every time I got near it, it would disappear! Then I would walk away, and it would come back! Uggh!!!
I’ve also been busy trying to collect as many items as I can, which earned me this sticker:
I also managed to craft a Well Made Rod, which is pretty cool! I had to grind a little bit for the items needed to make it, so it took a little bit of time.
I did earn a couple more stickers, but I didn’t take any screenshots- and I totally thought I did. I guess I was half asleep when I was playing or something! Anyways, I’m really into this game right now, so I’m sure I’ll write more about my adventures 🙂
Oh yeah, I guess I should mention- I really do want Disney Magical World 2, so it would be great if I could finish this one first! 😉 I’ll at least try to complete all the episodes in every world, then focus on collecting the rest of the items I need. We’ll see if I actually do that or if I just end up getting the game and playing them both at the same time! 😉
Today has been a bummer of a day for me. First off, seeing my hand surgeon this morning indicated that nerve damage may be more extensive than I thought. I will be following up with more testing in the coming weeks, which sounds like NO FUN at all! By the time I am allowed to play video games unrestricted again, I’ll have lost some of my edge 😉
Second off, my Uncle Ronnie passed away this morning. It makes me horribly sad, but there is one way I know he is always going to live on: as a character in the game Tomodachi Life for the Nintendo 3DS.
The Ronnie of this physical world may have passed, but the Ronnie who is a resident of Crickie Island (my island’s name in the game) is alive and well. In this world, he is with his wife, my Aunt Carol, and they enjoy many adventures together.
That’s one of the beautiful things about the gaming experience. Even in sad, dark times, gaming can take you on an adventure. Any time I’m missing Uncle Ronnie, I can pop in for a quick visit to Crickie Island and see his look-alike. It’s no substitute for the real person, of course, but it makes me feel better nonetheless. So life is gonna go on for Uncle Ronnie, Crickie Island style. There, a piece of him will live on forever.
Since Valentine’s Day isn’t a holiday in the Animal Crossing world that requires much player participation, I decided to combine the events into one blog post. Valentine’s Day is celebrated on February 14th (of course!) in all Animal Crossing games with the exception of Animal Crossing: Wild World.
First up is Doubutsu no Mori. Now, in Japan things are a little bit different. Barentein de (Valentine’s Day) is actually a holiday geared towards guys! On this special day, girls will send letters or gifts to the boys in their lives. So, if you are a male, you will receive a letter with a present from your female villagers. Since I am a girl, I didn’t get anything. That doesn’t mean that girls are left out, though- March 14th is Howaito de, and THAT is when girls receive their presents. Anyway, I snapped a picture of the bulletin board announcement for Barentein de:
Next up is Animal Crossing. Here is the announcement on the bulletin board:
And obviously I did not heed Pete’s advice, because my mailbox was full! That means that I didn’t get any Valentine’s! 😦 I was kind of bummed about that. I even saved and played later, after mail would be delivered again- but I got nothing. Boo. I did, however, get a letter from the museum. Apparently I tried to send away my golden rod:
What the hell was I thinking! I must’ve been asleep when I mailed that away! Good thing I didn’t accidentally send it to one of my villagers. Moving on…
In City Folk, Prince was my Valentine. He sent me a letter as well as a chocolate heart.
Here I am with my Valentine!
Lastly, in New Leaf, I got letters from Isabelle and my mom.
Isabelle sent me a chocolate cake, while my mom sent me a spring shirt. Here I am pondering whether or not to eat the cake while wearing my new shirt:
Also, please note that if you go to drink coffee from Brewster in either City Folk or New Leaf, it will actually be hot chocolate instead of coffee! This is a special Valentine’s Day treat.
That’s it for Valentine’s Day in all of the Animal Crossing games! Finally, I am all caught up blogging about February’s holidays. I didn’t mean to get so far behind! The only events left in February are a Fishing Tourney and a Flea Market, which I have blogged about before. See ya!
Like City Folk, Animal Crossing: New Leaf celebrated Festivale on February 8th.
When I got started with my game, I noticed a couple of my villagers really getting into the spirit of Festivale.
I decided that I needed to look the part, too! I pulled a Festivale tank and hair accessory out of storage, then headed to the Able Sisters to get some Festivale pants. I then went to Shampoodle and dyed my hair blue, just to be extra colorful! I am digging this look 😉
Next, I stopped and had a chat with Pavé, who is just as insane in this game as he is in City Folk. What is with this guy?!
In New Leaf, you have to collect feathers to give to Pavé in exchange for furniture. I’ll admit, I like this version of the holiday much better. You can still interact with your villagers to win or trade different color feathers, but you also find feathers floating around town to catch with your net. To me, this makes it much less aggravating because you are not obligated to talk to your villagers and play their ridiculous games of chance.
Anyway, I wandered around town for a bit, picking weeds as I kept an eye out for feathers. I also fell into a pitfall, which wasn’t very nice!
I hit the jackpot when I caught a rainbow feather! Pavé just LOVES his rainbow feathers. I handed it over to him, and he was thrilled. He gave me a Pavé chair for my efforts.
At this point, I wanted to play more, but my 3DS was running low on battery life. I headed to my house to display my Pavé chair with the other Pavé furniture I had collected in previous years. I hope to have the complete set one day!
That’s it for Festivale in Animal Crossing: New Leaf! Later!
Much like Groundhog Day in City Folk, Groundhog Day in Animal Crossing: New Leaf is a pretty quiet affair. As I loaded up my game, Isabelle told me it was Groundhog Day and that I should visit her at the plaza. And wouldn’t you know it, that’s exactly what I went and did! 😉
She gave me a Resetti model in honor of the “groundhog” that would predict how soon spring would come. She also seemed to agree with me about spring coming early.
I then walked over to the photo cutout that was up, and I took a picture of myself with Resetti. I made sure I looked nice and grumpy!
I decided to put my shiny new Resetti model on display in my house for awhile. One of these days I will change the furniture so it won’t be decorated for Christmas!
Also, when I started up my game, Isabelle told me I had a new neighbor. I tried to visit him, but he wasn’t up so early in the morning. I can’t say I blame him!
That’s it for Groundhog Day in Animal Crossing: New Leaf! Next up, I will be writing about Festivale in Animal Crossing: City Folk! See ya!
Today was the fishing tourney in Animal Crossing: New Leaf! During the fishing tourney, you have until 6 p.m. to catch the biggest fish. I like to play toward the later part of the day, when someone else has already set the record. That way I can see what I have to beat, and normally if I beat the record, it’s close to 6 p.m. and no one else can beat ME!
As soon as I exited my house, I headed over to Chip so he could explain the rules to me.
Wow, can’t believe I’ve never done a fishing tourney in this game before!
All right, challenge accepted!
I headed down to the beach in search of horse mackerels. Lucky me, I caught one on my first try! My character looks a little stoned, so I’m surprised she caught anything at all. 😉
I caught a few more fish for good measure, then took them up to Chip for evaluation. NONE of them were big enough to take over first place! Crap! It wasn’t looking good for me.
I headed on down to the beach to fish a little more. I only had about 6 minutes left to fish, so I figured my chances weren’t very good. To my surprise, I caught an 18.50 inch horse mackerel, which I knew would take over first place!
This is a nice little spot to fish.
We may have a winner folks!
I rushed over to Chip, who confirmed that I was now in the lead. He also gave me a puffer fish tv, which I was super excited about! I’ve been wanting one of those!
Aww what a cute tv!
With only a couple minutes left of the tourney, I decided to sell off the other fish I had caught. I also took a quick trip to Main Street to visit the museum and say hello to some of my past villagers.
As I crossed the railroad tracks back into town, I was alerted that the fishing tourney was over. All right, time to see if I won!
Following Chip’s instructions, I headed into the tent for the awards ceremony. And… yay! I got first place!
That’s right bitches! I’m #1!
Look how cute and happy everyone is! I snagged a gold trophy for my efforts.
That’s it for the fishing tourney in Animal Crossing: New Leaf! I had a lot of fun. Tomorrow, there is a fishing tourney in both Wild World and City Folk, so be expecting entries about them as well. Good night!
I earned a free play today on Nintendo Badge Arcade, so I choose a machine with Kirby characters in it. I got a Kirby (yay) so I put him on the home screen of my Nintendo 3DS. It’s a funny little scene: an angry Bowser is breathing fire, and Kirby looks like he’s sucking it up!
As you can see, MY real life Bowser could care less about starting trouble with Kirby.
