Celebrating Kirby With: Kirby’s Dream Land!

Despite the fact that my last Celebrating Kirby post was two months ago (god, I slack on EVERYTHING) I am still trying to continue toward my goal of playing every Kirby game I own to celebrate his 25th anniversary! Oh well, any progress is STILL progress, right?

After playing Hoshi no Kirby, the next game on the list is Kirby’s Dream Land!

kirbysdreamlandgameandinstructionbooklet

Kirby’s Dream Land was released for the Nintendo Game Boy in 1992, not long after Hoshi no Kirby was released in Japan. As I’ve mentioned before, they are the exact same game… but it’s still fun to have both in my collection anyway!

Since I already did a more thorough write up of my Hoshi no Kirby gameplay, I won’t go level by level with Kirby’s Dream Land. Nevertheless, here are a few screenshots from my gameplay!

Kirby’s Dream Land is a very short game, but I really loved playing it when I was a kid. I also studied the manual extensively when I was a kid, looking for hidden secrets within the text. I, um, ate a lot of Butterfinger candy when I was younger:

HAHA! So gross! I’ve pretty much given up the habit of eating messy things and reading, thank goodness. Anyway, this is a game that will always hold a very special place in my heart, and I still love to revisit it from time to time!

Next up to celebrate my favorite pink puffball is Kirby’s Adventure! Hopefully I’ll write about it soon instead of waiting another two months! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Vacation Goodies!

While my husband and I were on vacation two months ago (ugh, I’m so slow at posting!), we stopped at a few game stores to see what they had in stock. I always enjoy stopping at little mom and pop stores because you never know what kind of goodies you are going to uncover! As it turns out, we found quite a few games for pretty decent prices!!

For the Super Nintendo, we picked up these games:

Now, I rented Aaahh!!! Real Monsters as a kid from Blockbuster and I’m pretty sure I thought it sucked. Otherwise, I would have begged my mom to buy it for me! But when I saw it cheap couldn’t resist it just for nostalgic purposes. Batman Returns is a game my husband loved as a kid. And Jurassic Park… this was another stinker I rented as a kid. My uncle and I tried in vain to figure out what the hell we were supposed to be doing, and I remember being really disappointed that the graphics looked nothing like the movie! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Again, I bought this for nostalgic purposes.

I really enjoy playing imported games, and when I saw this one it looked cute, so I took a chance on it!

When I got home, I discovered that the name of this game is ๅฎŸๆณใƒ‘ใƒฏใƒ•ใƒซใƒ—ใƒญ้‡Ž็ƒ 4, orย Jikkyo Powerful Pro Yakyu 4, which is… a baseball game?! FUCK! I’m not exactly a fan of sports games. Normally I don’t just randomly buy games without looking into them a little bit, but I took a chance on this one. Actually, this is a long running series in Japan and it seems kind of fun, so who knows, I may actually enjoy it!

For the Playstation, we picked up these two:

These were both my husband’s picks. Tunnel B1 is something he vaguely remembers playing years ago and wanted to revisit, and Duke Nukem is a game he said he had been looking for for awhile. Except… when we got home, we discovered he already had it! I should have looked at my Backloggery when we were there to make sure we didn’t already own it. Whoops!

For Playstation 2 we got:

magicpengelthequestforcolorps2

I wanted this game when it came out, but it wasn’t very popular for whatever reason so I never saw it in stores much. When I did, it was expensive! It was only $7 at this particular store, so I snagged it. I’m kind of sad it doesn’t have a case, but such is life.

For Playstation 3 we got:

These are both my husband’s games, just a couple he has been wanting to play for awhile ๐Ÿ™‚

On to the PSP, we got:

popolocroispsp

PoPoLoCrois! This game looks absolutely adorable. I can’t wait to dive in!

Moving on to the PS Vita:

tokyotwilightghosthuntersvita

Now, I saw this game awhile back on my blogging pal Rob’s site I Played The Game!ย and he wasn’t exactly a fan of the game at all. He played the PS4 version, so maybe the PS Vita one is a little different? Doubtful, but still… it wasn’t too expensive and I need more Vita games, so hopefully this doesn’t totally suck!!

Lastly, for the XBox:

grabbedbytheghouliesxbox

This is one of those games that I wanted and then forgot I wanted because I literally want thousands of games! Haha!!

Also during that same week, we took a bunch of NES games from my father-in-law. They were all my mother-in-law’s games and since he doesn’t play video games, he said we could have them. My husband remembers playing some of these as a kid, but he left them with his mom when he moved out of his parent’s house. There are a couple games we already have in there, but a lot of ones we don’t! It should be fun to play through them all.

So there you have it! I added way too many games to my backlog, but I’m not ashamed. I love a good bargain! ๐Ÿ˜‰

P.S. I don’t mean to bitch, but I am SO TIRED of having to peel fucking price tags and stickers off of games that I buy! I mean, just look at the picture of Grabbed by the Ghoulies! I will probably end up just throwing that case away and putting the game in a different one because it’s in such bad shape! At least they don’t put stickers right on the games… nope, wait, they do! Every single SNES game I bought as well as the N64 game all have sticker residue on them that I have to clean off!! Okay, rant over. I’m sure many of you share that sentiment ๐Ÿ™‚

Pokรฉmon GO Progress: August 2017!

Well, this weekend was much better than last weekend! I’m over my cold, which is great… I was feeling pretty crappy for a couple of days! Also, Hurricane Irma really sucked! It was supposed to turn, but it ended up making a beeline straight for us. For nearly 24 hours, we were constantly getting battered by wind and rain… the worst of the weather was from 7 p.m. Sunday night to about 4 a.m. Monday morning. I’ve been through hurricanes and tropical storms before, but this was definitely the scariest storm I’ve ever been in! We ended up with a bit of damage to our house… tons of shingles ripped off the roof, some water damage inside, the fence is ruined… but I’m just grateful we made it through! I’ve definitely had my fill of severe weather for a long time, that’s for sure!

Anyways, August was a pretty busy month as far as Pokรฉmon GO is concerned! I caught the following Pokรฉmon:

Snubbull…(don’t know where the pic went of me catching him?)

snubbullpokedex

Dratini…

Stantler…

Qwilfish…

Mareep…

Skarmory…

Venusaur… (with some really shitty CP)

Shiny Magikarp OMG! I know it’s not like the Shiny Magikarp is better than a regular one, I just think it’s cool that I caught one ๐Ÿ˜‰

Granbull…

and finally, Machop.

I also evolved several Pokรฉmon this month. I evolved Gloom into Vileplume…

Natu into Xatu…

Krabby into Kingler…

Ledyba into Ledian…

Teddiursa into Ursaring…

Psyduck into Golduck…

Marill into Azumarill…

Rhyhorn into Rhydon…

Sunkern into Sunflora…(with a little help from a Sun Stone)

Clefairy into Clefable…

and Jigglypuff into Wigglytuff!

I hatched several Pokemon this month, including Charmander,ย Meowth,ย Rhyhorn…

Remoraid, Elekid (yay!), Chansey (double yay!),ย and Abra.

I earned several medals, too, which included feed 10 berries at Gyms, win 10 Gym battles, defend Gyms for 10 hours…

catch 50 Psychic-type Pokรฉmon, catch 3 big Magikarp, catch 50 Ground-type Pokรฉmon…

catch 200 Water-type Pokรฉmon, and defend Gyms for 100 hours!

I participated in seven Raid Battles this month. I was with Michael on every occasion, and in one Raid Battle against Magikarp, some other random person joined us! That was kind of funny. We stuck to simple Raid Battles… we fought Quiliva, Magikarp, and Cronocaw twice. We also fought Muk once, but we lost against it.

For the first time ever, I also participated in many Gym Battles! I care more about catching the Pokemon than I do fighting them, but Gym Battles are actually pretty fun. It’s a great way to earn XP and the only way to earn coins, so I figured I’d try them out. All in all, I took down eight Gyms this month, and I usually put Snorlax, Ursaring, or Espeon in to defend them, since they are some of my highest CP Pokemon.

On five occasions, I also put some of my Pokรฉmon in a friendly gym to help defend it!

And even though Michael and I are on different teams, I partially took down a gym for him so that it would be easier for him to take it over. See, even if you’re on opposite teams, you can still work together to try to take down a common enemy! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I rotated through several different buddies this month as well. They included Krabby, Teddiursa, Rhyhorn…

Sunkern, Clefairy, Jigglypuff, and Wooper!

I saw two more Legendaries this month as well: Lugia and Zapdos. Did I even attempt to fight them? Nope!

Since I made so much progress, I reached Level 22, then reached Level 23!

That’s it for my super-productive month in Pokรฉmon GO! See ya next time!

My Gaming Month in Review: August 2017!

Well, I have been sick all this week with a lovely cold! It’s a little early for that, isn’t it? I hope that doesn’t mean I’ll be sick all through the fall and winter!

Besides the cold, I am NERVOUS because I live in Central Florida, and Hurricane Irma is supposed to start impacting our weather Sunday. The hurricane is so big and covers such a wide area! The track has shifted a few times, and none of those shifts have been in our favor… it’s been crazy this week as people have been stocking up on supplies and getting their houses ready. I’m still hoping it shifts away from us… anyway, let’s just hope for the best here!

Now to talk about something much more fun… video games of course! I didn’t get a ton of gaming time in for August, but I still managed to make some progress in a few of my games!

First of all, Michael and I had a bit of fun this month playing some games on our Atari Flashback 7 console! I just love Atari games. Anyway, the Atari Flashback 7 has 101 games to choose from, so there’s a ton of different options here! We played a few of them, including Bowling, Frog Pond, Hangman, Miniature Golf, Night Driver, Sky Diver, and Slot Racers.

Night Driver game me a damn headache, and we couldn’t figure out Sky Diver for the life of us, but the other games were a blast to play. Frog Pond had us laughing so hard trying to get our frogs to move and eat the flies! It was simple, silly fun.

I played Doubutsu no Mori a little bit on the N64 this month as well. It seems like it’s always raining when I play!

alwaysraining

I FINALLY witnessed a balloon getting stuck in a tree, and I eagerly shook the present down! Inside was… an annoying executive’s toy. Yippee.

presentintree

One day when I started up the N64, a message popped up on the screen that I hadn’t seen before. I was a little worried, until I realized that the controller wasn’t all the way plugged in! Still, the literal translation of “please throttle controller 1” gave me a good laugh!

throttlecontroller1

I continued working towards paying my debt on my house, and one of the best ways to do that is by fishing. I know I’ve said it before, but fishing is such a royal pain in the ass in this game! My reaction time is way too slow, I guess.

As it stands, I still owe 285,000 Bells to Tom Nook. One day my debt will be paid!

285kbellsleft

Meanwhile, in Harvest Moon: Animal Parade for the Wii, I finally got Bo’s wish! Two people down, eight more to go. I’m getting close to hearing Renee’s wish.

bowish

Owen is seriously crushing on me, lol! I sound like a middle schooler. ๐Ÿ˜‰ It is adorable to watch, though. He asked me on a random date at one point, which I thought was pretty cool. I wasn’t expecting such a random event- makes the romance a little more “realistic” in my opinion!

At the end of August, I was on Year 1, Autumn, Day 26…. I didn’t get a screenshot of my progress though!

I also continued playing Juice Cubes on my iPhone. There were some limited time vacation levels to play, set in a world where everything was frozen solid. These levels are really hard! I only played the first level.

juicecubesvacationisland

Back in the main game, the levels are still pretty tricky. I beat Level 29 on the very last turn!

Currently, I’m on Level 35.

juicecubeslv35

I’m still slogging my way through The Legendary Starfy on the Nintendo DS. The game is so cute, but the gameplay mechanics are so weird sometimes… and I think that’s why it’s taking me so long to beat this.

starfymushroom

It’s such a pretty game though!

starfycute

Also, I spent way too much time laughing at this screenshot:

boobcorns

Yes, I am aware that sometimes I have the same humor as a 12 year old boy. So be it! I’m currently on Level 4-3: Sogwood Forest: The Papes Chase.

That’s it for my gaming fun in August. I had a really productive month in Pokรฉmon GO, which I will detail in my next blog post. ๐Ÿ™‚

Why I Love… Yoshi!

Wow, I can’t believe it is September already! This year is flying by (and that’s a good thing, cuz it really sucks). Fall begins in a couple weeks, and I can’t wait! I love the summer but I’m ready for it to get a bit cooler out.

Anyway, this month’s Why I Love… post features one of my favorite game characters- he is second only to Kirby! I’m talking, of course, about Yoshi!!

Cute little Yoshi!

It’s a little difficult to remember the first game I played that had Yoshi in it. Most people would say they first encountered him in Super Mario World, but I actually didn’t have that game growing up! I would say that I first saw him in Super Mario Kart, and I thought he was absolutely adorable. (I didn’t actually prefer to use him, though, as I thought his controls were a bit slippery.)

I spent so many hours playing the first Super Mario Kart!

When I got my Super Scope 6, one of the games I got was Yoshi’s Safari! Man, was that game fun. Riding on Yoshi’s back, shooting baddies on the screen… it was unlike anything I’d ever played before! I felt bad when I shot the back of his head by accident, though. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Something that always makes me smile when I think about this game is the fact that my mom LOVED this game- and she never liked to play video games with me! My uncle played it quite often as well. It wasn’t unusual to find them in my room playing Yoshi’s Safari well into the night!

The game that really started my love for Yoshi was none other than Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island. Yoshi’s Island put you in charge of Baby Mario, and you had to keep him on your back as you traversed through dangerous worlds in order to stop Kamek and reunite him with Baby Luigi. It was so much fun to take control of Yoshi and uncover the secrets in every level. This game also had some of the best music! To this day, it’s still one of my favorites.

Not only are Yoshi’s games fun and adorable, but he himself is just so cute, I can’t help but smile when I see him!

Yoshi with his tongue out!

Yoshi is one of those characters that is just so versatile as well. He has been in many different types of games, from platformers to kart racing to puzzle games. His games are mostly easily accessible as well, though don’t be fooled by the cuteness- some of those levels in Yoshi’s Island get really tough!

Yarn Yoshi and Yarn Poochy… one of the cutest combos ever!

In short, I love Yoshi because he is adorable and his games are fun. These are pretty simple reasons, but sometimes the simple things in life are the best! ๐Ÿ˜‰
